Thought Adults were done giving out participation rewards/second chances rewarding losing. More and more egalitarianism isn’t a good thing the further you try to even the stakes it has worse effects in the end.

Play-in is stupid considering there's a ton of games in a season.
The 72 games this year should be the play-in.

It's a stupid excuse by the league and the owners to cash in.

I really don’t understand how some people can blame a business for “chasing in.” The point of the NBA is to make money. It exists as a business to make money for the owners and the players. The play in tournament should get fantastic ratings and it makes the end of the regular season get more ratings.

The NBA will, and should, look for every available opportunity to cash in.

Playoffs number after this will be intresting to see but right now regular season numbers are down across the board. Cant call that cashing in

I disagree, because you end up in the play-in tournament based on your regular season record.

Maybe I'm used to that because it's something well known in European football leagues and it's usually super-exciting.

This is absurd. Regular season is much more important now. Teams were just coasting the last 10-15 games, resting players etc. Not the case now.

Soccer is different higher stakes, relegation, promotion, qualifying, winning international prestigious cups. Lots of $$$ at stake.

NBA is one team prize only.

That was a remark specific to the situation a year ago- when the season was unexpectedly cut short.

Did you not bother to check that or do you not think that distinction matters? Because it's pretty clear it does.

So, in other words, he did want a play-in tournament. His most recent comment up till today was positive.

If your looking at the top 5 seeds in the west you’ve seen how many many games they’ve rested . There’s no worry for them to miss the playoffs . 6-8 are the only teams that feel pressure.

He was referring to the situation where a season was suspended while in-progress and then restarted. It's a completely different scenario...but you probably already know this and are just trolling so good job.

Yeah, everyone understands the point of every business is to make money, but should it be at the expense of their integrity?
Some players don't want it. In the history of the NBA this is the first time it ever happened, people are just really divided by it.

NBA makes a **** of money even without the play-ins.

If it makes the end of season games "more interesting and for teams to avoid coasting," then those teams should have played better in the course of those 72 games. Just my opinion.

Why should bottom teams get playoff salaries ? For a game ? You sucked all season long and some how still get chance to make it to the playoffs.

This season was cut short too so...

No, this season was not "cut" short. It was planned to be shorter.

We knew from the outset it was going to be 72 games- schedules were equalized accordingly.

Last year the season was cut short with schedules of uneven difficulty.

It's different. I refuse to believe you don't know this.

As much as I dislike Lebron I have to agree with him on the play in. I hate it and want the league to get rid of it.

There's faaar more money in the NBA for everyone - players, teams etc. One of the main points of sports is excitement and the play-in brings that, I think.

Is someone keeping a log of all Lebrons public statements? are we mining the data for hypocrisy?can we utilize Palantir for best results??

The criticism is because your idol has a history of expressing his disapproval when circumstances negatively affect him and his causes otherwise he elects to keep quiet when things are in his favor.

Not even close to my idol.

So Lebron James is acting like a normal human being. OMG, thanks for pointing that out. People tend to comment on things negatively affecting them in real-time. If someone is affected by SALT deduction they may comment on it..if someone is affected by student loan legislation they are more likely to comment on it.

Lebron isn't some elected official or moral compass. He is just a basketball player who comments whenever he feels the need to, and that all you should expect from him.

Sounds like he is your idol. A normal human being shouldn’t censor other people’s views on what’s important to them because it will have a financial impact to him. He can comment whenever he feels like it but he should probably not tell others what to think or try and prevent others from expressing their views since he’s not an elected official or moral compass like you said. That’s called hypocrisy otherwise. That’s exactly what I’m expecting him not to do.

NBA Fans before we had this..

The season is too long and the games don't really matter!

NBA Fans after this...

God, this is dumb the fact that a 10th seed could make the playoffs is a joke!

This accomplishes two things it makes the final seeds go to the better teams 9 times out of 10 meaning better playoffs overall usually, and it also makes teams battle more for a top 5 spot to avoid the play-in tournament. The beast 5 teams in the EC and WC will still make the playoffs no matter what. I see nothing wrong with a play-in tournament and I bet if it had been like this for 20 years no one would say ****.

**** make every season 62-72 games roughly, and have a play-in tournament to help ensure better teams making the playoffs. If the teams currently in the playoff seeding are truly better they should easily hold onto their playoff seed. I even say this as a fan of a team that is currently in the 6th spot due to a 3 way tie that puts them in the play in tournament.
