Great draft but not close to as good as 2003, 1996 or 1984

It’s #2 to 1996. “Not close” is a joke. 2003 ended up being more top heavy but much less deep with high level role players than this. 1984 lol? Get the hell out. Sure Jordan and Hakeem but extremely shallow with high end talent otherwise.

Top 4 guys from 84 Jordan, Hakeem, Barkley Stockton. Jorden > Luka, Hakeem > SGA, Barkley > Brunson, Stockton >>>> Trae.

Sure but the 5-60 in 2018 is probably 4-5x better. That matters.

I had to double check the post date. Did I just read someone post in 2024 that Lonnie Walker should go Top-10 in a redraft? Lol.

Lonnie the goat man. He’s 3rd to Luka and SGA, don’t even try me.

I don’t think that’s true at all. I think 20 and on is better for 2018 but few of those guys matter. Perkins, Kersey, Kevin Willis etc. match up with Bridges, JJJ Ayton etc.

Who is better of Robertson for #5 in 2018?

2003 had 9 all stars, 1996 10, 1984 7, 2018 5.
I think the depth of 2018 is over rated. Sure some good players but no one special other than the top 3 or 4 . Does anyone other than Luka, Young, SGA, Brunson or JJJ ever make an All star game?

For 1984.. 17 players had full careers. The rest mostly being out of the league within 3-5 years.

1996 had 27 guys that stuck around and weren’t out of the league in a few years or less

2003 had 30 guys that weren’t out of the league within a few years. Deeper in role players than I remember.

So yea, maybe 2018 is in the discussion for top 3. Still a historically good draft that can still move up (and has moved up a ton since 2021).

Upon further review and having forgotten initially that Barkley/Stockton were 1984 (for some reason I thought they were 82 or 83), I’d rank it

1996
2003
2018
1984

1984 is better up top, but much weaker from 5-60.

Wow... you're really making yourself look silly in this thread. First you said that the 1984 draft only had 2 good players and the rest was trash. Then you say it's only 4 good players when someone pointed out two HOFers that you "forgot".

OkcSinceSGA wrote:Dude stop. You literally threw in 1984 lol. Which has a top 2 player all time, top 10 ish in Hakeem, then mostly trash after that. I’ll give you projections.

You started this thread saying that you didn't see any argument for another draft to be the greatest but now you list two other drafts that you think could be ahead of 2018.

I don't think you know your NBA history. It's okay to give rank the 2018 class as the best if you believe that but you shouldn't be so dismissive of others peoples opinions with posts that just demonstrate your ignorance.

We saying JJJ is number 5? Might give him the edge over Robertson but it’s close. He was a DPOY and personal first team defense and 4 time all star.

Then Brunson is now crushing the East on his way to potentially an ECF in a completely transformed Knicks team. Brunson has lept over guys like Devin Booker IMO. MPJ is a 3rd option on a title winner. Divencenzo is a big time player in NY. Lots and lots of good to great role players. JJJ always a great player.

Is this still a crazy post by me?

There are more rotation spots in a 30 team league than a 23 team league like in 1984. Just kinda needs to be pointed out you're going to get more rotation players over time by a function of a bigger league.

Yes an important factor.

I think if the argument was that 2018 is one of the deepest drafts in recent memory the OP has a point, but best ever was his take

That’s fair, but then we should also point out that top to bottom the league is SIGNIFICANTLY more talented today and making it on a roster is a lot harder anyway.

I agree, but I don't see that changing the draft size relative to team roster limitations.

I’m saying there were less slots across the league at that time, but the significant talent increase eats that up anyway to where I’m not sure the modern era is easier to make a squad. The net could be a similar chance of making the cut.
