Too small of a backcourt. Sexton would have been a nice fit in New Orleans if they hasn’t already pursued Devonte Graham. I don’t know why the Cavs didn’t try to move Nance during the draft, I think they could have gotten more value for him prior to free agency.
If Sexton played for the Pels, Zion and Ingram would never see the ball. He’s a ridiculous ballhog with a poor bball IQ. He’s not the answer iMO.
Seaton is going to have the same problem anywhere he plays, and it’s the reason the Cavs couldn’t find a trade partner before the draft. He can’t play PG on offense and he’s an awful defender who can’t play SG on defense in a small backcourt. So his overall value doesn’t come close to matching his scoring ability.
It's a challenge for him but what is a Pg these days? I mean, nobody out here avg high assist numbers anymore. Lots of scoring guards playing pg anyway. I personally like the facilitating type but I think there are more guys like Sexton than there are guys not like Sexton, put it that way. Teams I see him fitting in are teams where someone outside of PG is doing most of the playmaking.
Denver- where scoring is all he really needs to do.
NY- ship has sailed but seeing as Julius out here avg PG stats I guess it wouldn't matter
Dallas- don't matter where you play, Luka gon dominate the ball
Lakers- you know, Lebron and all

How would that make sense when Atl has the John Collins/Gallo PF rotation? Nance as a backup center to Capella? Yeah, I'm gonna explode from all the sense it makes
I don't think Hawks see Gallo as a long-term solution. He already gets mentioned in every Hawks trade rumor or even as a salary they need to get off. Gallo is 33-years-old and most of the Hawks core (Trae, Hunter, Reddish, Huerter, Okongwu, Jalen Johnson, Sharife Cooper) are 23 and under (Capela is 26, Bogbog is 28). Nance is 28. Not a perfect age gap but still 5 years younger than Gallo. He's also a defensive piece, something the Hawks sorely lack. Nance has enough versatility to play small ball 5; a nice option for a team that fell apart defensively whenever Capela sat. I think he'd upgrade the Hawks defensively and add more lineup flexibility, without really taking anything away. The Hawks have so much firepower that I see Gallo as more of a luxury than a crucial piece.
I think you're underestimating Gallo's qualities, just like those guys who think he's not a value guy on that roster. Atlanta wants to compete now, Gallo is still gonna be a great offensive weapon in the playoffs for the next couple of seasons (and he had games where he was saving the Hawks bench from getting spanked in the playoffs by the virtue of being an elite shooter) while being an underrated defender, and meanwhile Nance missed over half a season because he's got Crohn's disease which shows up completely randomly and makes him unable to play. I don't think any GM on a 2nd tier contender would replace Gallo with a guy like Nance straight up just because Gallo is 5 years older. And I don't see how Nance is any better at small ball 5 than Gallo or Collins.
And I've never understood this 'team around the same age' argument, it's never had any correlation to success in the nba. It's okay to have this concept of having 2-4 guys who are 'core' around the same age, but trying to get rid of guys because they are in their 30's turned out to be a mistake for many. Guys won't magically stay on your roster just because they're all in their 20's, teams like that often fall apart for various reasons, while guys in their 30's can still turn out to be good until even 37 or 38. Look at CP3, Bojan, Ingles, Lopez, Crowder, Draymond, Conley, Lowry, Hayward, Millsap, Batum etc. Most of those guys are/were on the top echelon of teams, and nobody is trying to get rid of them just because they're not as young as their main stars, and whoever moved any of those guys in the past made a mistake. You don't move guys like Gallo unless you're rebuilding, and Atlanta's not rebuilding.
To be clear, I'm not talking about my evaluation of Gallo, I was strictly speaking on what Hawks fans say and what the media says about potential Hawks moves. I also didn't say anything about them trading Gallo for Nance, just that I think the Hawks wouldn't hesitate to pick up another forward just because they have already have Gallo locked in there.
Gallinari has been fairly durable the past 3 seasons, but overall his health track record is very bad. At age 33, maybe he plays at this level for another couple seasons, but he could also fall off as soon as this season. Not every good NBA player makes it to their late 30s. For every guy who aged well, that you listed, there are guys who fall off. Millsap fell off last year, other guys who saw major decline recently: Aldridge (before his diagnosis), Ariza, Iggy, Baynes, George Hill, Wes Matthews, Augustine, Ilyasova, Bjelica, Beverly, Eric Gordon, Deandre Jordan, Kevin Love, Jeff Teague, Blake Griffin. I could list 10-15 more guys in their early 30s who have seen their play erode due to either injury or unknown. Gallo projects to age well, relying mostly on size and skill, but these things are rarely super predictable. I wasn't saying the Hawks need to make sure everyone is the same age, just that a team that has plans on trying to contend now and also in 5 years, will see a 28-year-old as being potentially more valuable than a 33-year-old.
I do think Nance is clearly a defensive upgrade over Collins or Gallo, at the 4 or the 5. Do I need to elaborate on that? Gallo and Collins have good effort on defense, but aren't considered a plus on that end. Nance is a super useful multi-positional defender, good in man and help.

Hornets is a good fit, can play as a 2 on offense, and a 1 in defense.
He is a good scorer, and they doesnt have one better, even if the team overall is very good. They have a lot of passing and off ball game to play him alongside Ball in my opinion.
Dont think he is so ball dominant and has low BBIQ, for sure he is always on attack mode, but he is the only option for the Cavs right now. Playing with Lamelo and Hayward, two selfless and smart players could make him improve. And I think no one traded for him because its a tricky situation to pay a lot for a player that we dont know about when it matters.
We could have the same conversation for John Collins if the Hawks didnt went deep on the playoffs, teams, hawks included, would have more caution to sign him for a big contract

Re: Kyle Anderson & Dillon Brooks are on the market [Fedor]
Would be a sensible move but I'm not a big fan of Dillon Brooks. He's a poor man's Marcus Smart for me. I like Kyle Anderson quite a bit and I would take him but he's an expiring contract and I wouldn't give up Joe Harris just for him. Technically Kyle Anderson's salary fits the Nets' TPE but Nets have no good additional assets (1st round picks) to attach to the TPE.Sane wrote:Brooklyn should trade Harris for these two if they’re better defenders. Good size, depth. They would do well, don’t think they’ve ever played with someone who can take the pressure of them this much.
