this is a stupid argument. ben is literally the same position he just plays point center.

last time I checked Ben never guarded the opposing teams center, its always been Embiid. What alternate universe are you in. He's a point forward.

The idea that gobert doesn’t catch any flack for his struggles on offense is insane, there’s a thread here every other week talking about how bad he is. It’s pretty much all anyone talks about In regards to him these days.

Being not an amazing offensive threat is more forgivable at center with defense/rebound/blocks. Ben Simmons is a "point guard" who refuses to shoot. Simmon's correct position would be a point forward or even a small ball center. Gobert is taller and a better rebounder. Not saying he shouldn't get any criticism but Simmons is a guard who doesn't even attempt a jump shot. So that is why he gets more ****.

Add that Ben insists on shooting with the wrong hand, too

I keep forgetting this  he is so .. unique

Why is this it’s own thread instead of an idea in any of the ten Simmons threads

I hope you're being sarcastic.

Simmons stands at the top of the key for 24 seconds.

He is putting pressure on his teammates by not spreading the floor and basically making it 4vs5.

How is this even a thread?

Because Gobert doesn’t turn down shots.

There’s also probably a positional element, where there’s higher offensive expectations on any G or F than Cs.

Considering their positions & roles, Rudy is probably a slightly better scorer than Ben is.

How many are assisted?

Looking at a couple metrics to come up to the conclusion : this player is a better scorer than this other player doesn't make a lot of sense when you're not even using the right stats to do it... they play in completely different offensive systems with opposite roles.

Yes, it would be great if Gobert could punish small ball with his post game, but he is just not that type of center, and thats not an outlier, a lot if not most bigs nowadays are like that, why even single out Rudy? He is good in 5 on 5 game, he gets 13-15 points on elite efficiency and does what center suppose to do, he is just not an ISO scorer.

Where Ben IS an outlier. He is a guard who plays at perimeter, has the ball, but is so afraid of failure he refuses to take any shot that is not a lay up. He is far more of an anomaly than Rudy is. Rudy is classic 21 century center, Ben is an oppose of 21s century guard/ point forward, whatever you see Ben as.

I’ll get on Rudy when he passes up an open dunk and passes it to Royce O Neal

1) Rudy Gobert is the objectively better defender, by def rating, opp FG%, block, and defensive rebounding, Simmons high steal rate and on ball defense doesn’t close the gap.

2) Gobert has never quit on his team and refused to accept the criticism for the flaws in his game.

3) Gobert has never had a hype machine setting superstar expectations. Simmons has been acting a Star since high school and we’re watching him miss his own expectations, seemingly through his own decisions.

4) The expectations gap is real. Simmons play has been peak Rondo. Rudy’s lower expectations combined with very high PER and WS show him on a different level.

Playoff Rondo is a monster.

Playoff Simmons goes the other direction.

Simmons playoffs = 13.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, .571 field, .520 ft (but .707 in 2018 and .575 in 2019)
Rondo playoffs = 12.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 8.5 assists, .440 field, .649 ft

You're not making the point you think you're making. Simmons is on a 5yr 177m contract and has slightly better overall numbers than a guy on a 2 yr/15m deal who has never in his career ever had close to a max contract. You think you're saying "people are too hard on Simmons." What you're really saying in Simmons is a role player and should be paid like one.

People just dont care about Utah, its just a small team, they arent a real contenter, as they show every single year in the playoffs.

Also the narrative about their draft order is nuts, both are players under max contracts, they are the best defender on their teams and probably the seconr most important player too.

Gobert impact is reduced in the playoffs, teams can deploy schemes to challenge his defense. He is a very efficient offensive player but he doesnt do s lot, he just rolls to the rim and catch lobs and putbacks, he cant expand his arsenal to offset the impact loss such schemes have on his game.

Simmons offensive shortcomings are ridiculous, dude just think he can not shoot on games and pass "easy" looks at the rim, defenders will just sag off of him and he wont make him pay, but he is a good passer, his defense is the same on the playoffs, and he has another weapon as a transition player. Simkons earns less, is younger and a case can be made that with better fit he could produce much more than he does currently.

I dont see reason to bash the guys, even if their offense is subpar they are great in what they do and responsiboe for the success level their teams have
