It’s not his role. It’s his next contract. If they paid him 30 million plus to be a role a player he wouldn’t complain.

The Pacers are smart. They are trying to offload that problem to someone else before the time bomb goes off. Better than the sixers paying a player 30 million plus only having to deal with a third option player acting up. Get rid of the problem earlier.

Blazers needs to find a way to get Simmons and Turner. Their defense would complement Lillard perfectly.

Kind of unfortunate when a player doesn't know their limitations. He'd need to be on a pretty bad team to not be a role player. I wonder how much of this is the idea of being a role player on a bad team. He'd maybe be more accepting of a similar role if they were winning and he is deferring to Steph Curry and company (just as an example since Warriors were mentioned in this thread), but I get feeling minimized while losing is not fun.

Would be amazing to see, but Morey is probably not budging on anything from Portland but a rip off.

So give up 2 young lottery picks and their starting center for a role-player? Terrible trade. Wiseman is projected to be a way better player then Turner once he develops. Warriors are the best team in the league, they also dont need to make a trade. So this makes no sense.

Turner will be even more of a role-player on Golden State then he is in Indiana.

Brook Lopez on the Bucks.

That's the ideal role for him on a team, that's the role he should embrace and thrive at it.
Enough similarities. Elite shot blocker, good defender, good shooter, good at box outs. He doesn't have Lopez's post game but he's significantly younger.

If he thinks he's better than that(and sees himself as Jokic or Embiid) he's on for a rude awakening.

Aside from debates about value, how does Turner make sense for GSW when he specifically wants to leave to be more than a ‘role player’ (to use his words). It's not like it's easier to have touches and get shots up in Golden State than in Indiana. Our Centers have notoriously been reduced to smaller roles in the past and it was a key argument in favor of Turner that he can play effectively in a small offensive role.

Also, why would Indiana take two Centers back – both of whom aren't known to be shooters – when they have Sabonis and the thought process behind most draft proposals was to move on from Turner to get a non-big in return.

Winning solves a lot of ‘role’ questions.

I think the offer would be something more like Wiseman/Kuminga with a pick back to GS, Wiseman to OKC for picks and Kuminga/pick to IND.

GS passes the ball around a lot more then most teams. So even if Turner doesn't get significantly more shots he'll get more touches. For some players that can be important in making them fell more involved in the offense.

And of course winning can make players happier in the same role.

Feel like the Hornets would be the best fit. They could increase his role with LaMelo

We've got a bunch of scorers but everyone is happy with their roles. That's what happens when you have a fast pace, ball movement oriented offense, and a PG with elite vision that inspires folks to share the ball.

I think Turner would love it here.

Exactly. Some of my fellow Hornets fans are gaga over the guy, but I certainly wouldn't trade Hayward for him

I remember Turner facing up in his first couple season. He probably wants to be a scorer, but that’s not his best role. He’d probably accept his current role if he were on a winning team.

He’s basically a carbon copy of Raef LaFrentz; he protects the rum and spreads the floor. There are a bunch of teams that could use him.

I don't blame Turner or any player for feeling this way, so it's certainly not a knock on him, but it'd make me wary as a potential trading team. The bar to being a high-ish usage star is just so high, most players are better off perfecting the roles they're already good at. Reminds me a lot of Jerami Grant - no good team was going to indulge him in his desire to be a high usage type

I guess it depends how turner views someone like goober. If he things he’s more than a role player he can certainly aspire to be a goober level player / role etc.

I'm constantly underwhelmed by Turner when he does anything besides protect the rim (which he's amazing at). He can shoot, but the release isn't quick. He has a high center of gravity and weak, inflexible legs, so he gets knocked around the paint. He very much is a role player. A valuable role player yes, but I'm not sure what Turner thinks he could do on another roster.

Agreed. As a potential suitor, that quote is concerning.

It sounds like Turner wants a situation like Jerami Grant has in Detroit. I'm not sure if that exists.

I've not watched a second of the Pacers yet this year under Carlisle. Was wondering if you or someone else could help me know how often is Turner the screener in the PNR? A lot, or is that mainly Sabonis? If its Sabonis that's definitely an area where he could feel more utilized. I know one of the changes Kidd made with KP is using him a lot more as a screener which gets KP far more engaged in the offense.

But yeah if he looks at Sabonis and thinks that should be me, well no. Or if he looks at Jerami Grant going to a terrible team and putting up a bunch of shots and hence more points, that's not exactly been a good thing either.

But sometimes you have to go somewhere else to accept who you are. You'd like to think when your 4th straight coach is using you in similar fashion that you might come to terms with it, but he might also feel like he's never been given a fair shot. But the teams likely to want to trade for him aren't going to be thinking in terms of a larger offensive role.

I posted this on Hawksquawk about this:

I honestly thought Turner three years ago was going to be a dominant big and be like a poor man's Embiid. There's the box score and highlight videos you can watch on Turner and be like WOW! he can block shots AND hits three's as a legit center OR....you watch the full games and see how little impact he has in games.
