My point is very simple: a person is innocent until proven guilty.
As I said above, let the guys defend themselves before jumping into assumptions on what they might have said.
Your best case scenario here is that this announcer did zero research and just assumed a player for a visiting team was related to a guy that played for the home team 40 years ago. A fact he likely didn’t reference or verify at any other point until literally the last shot of the game. Just call a spade a spade, dude.

Intention is key here. Unfortunately he can say whatever he wants concerning what he really meant. But I'm betting it's not underhanded, afaik, the Wiz announcers aren't known for being douchey.

Re: Wizards Broadcasters, Surely punishment incoming
Is everybody in this thread crazy? Legit question. Like both sides look incredibly dense right now.
1. He 99% mistakenly referred to Kevin Porter, a former Wizards player (6 years there, 4 time assist leader), unless you guys thought he was waiting for the exact moment that KPJ made a dagger buzzer beater to refer to his actual father's gun charges and had a death wish of wanting to get fired by saying what he said. You can argue that this guy needs to do his research instead of assuming, just a very **** coincidence.
2. This has nothing to do with cancel culture or people being soft or snowflakes or something. You wouldn't say "This guy puts it in the hole with skill, just like his dad!" if some NBA's player dad was accused of sexual assault or rape or something and blame people for being "too soft" if there was an actual comparison made there. That's unprofessional and way over the line. Go to the Comedy Club and do a routine if you want to be funny like that. It's just there's probably a mistake here.
It reminds me of the baseball fan that everybody on Twitter went crazy about because they thought he was calling the batter the "N" word. Turns out he was drunkenly yelling at the mascot "Dinger", which is why nobody around him made any fuss or tried to fight him or anything, yet people try to pretend to hear otherwise

Yeah I can't imagine a TV broadcaster would just nonchalantly say something so cruel and disgusting while complimenting the team for a well drawn up play. The story with his dad is that the girl he was with asked to see his gun which accidentally went off during the handoff and killed her. What kind of sick person would refer to that as "pulling the trigger at the right time", on air no less?

I'd rather at least wait and listen to what the broadcasters have to say about this. But I think they could be fired on the spot.
Im about 95% sure this whole thing was a big misunderstanding.

Who would be stupid enough to risk their entire livelihood saying that. Makes 0 sense.

Considering there are a lot of JR's in the NBA im guessing the commentator took a leap of faith.

At best they are **** idiots. Like if there was a former wizards players son running around you may research it a little bit more.
Im guessing they just assumed they'd be related. Should have researched but if thats the case it's no biggie. They'll probably explain it as such and clear everything up.

Re: Wizards Broadcasters, Surely punishment incoming
What the broadcaster said: “What a well designed play. And uh, you got to give that credit. Kevin Porter Jr, like his dad, pulled that trigger right at the right time. Boy that one stung.”
What the video showed: a replay of KPJr hitting a 3 at a good time on the shot clock, crowd goes wild, broadcaster is commenting.
My interpretation as a fan watching the video: The broadcaster thinks the coach had a crafty play to get KPJ the ball to hit a 3. KPJ’s dad must have been a basketball player who too hit big shots at the right moment.

“Like his dad pulled that trigger right at the right time.”
For those of you thinking this was intentional……When did his actual dad pull “that trigger right at the right time”?
When he shot that innocent young girl? He “pulled that trigger right at the right time” and shot her?
Makes a lot of sense.
Announcer made a dumb mistake and was probably thinking of someone else …perhaps as others have mentioned, Kevin Porter.

Re: Wizards Broadcasters, Surely punishment incoming
What are the chances the broadcaster actually knew that about his real father? How many here actually knew it before reading the OP?
If it was intentional, the guy is a bum and should be harshly punished, but I think it’s more likely an unintentional mix up, especially being that the mistaken father played for the franchise he is broadcasting for.

Easily a cause for firing. That was way over the line, unless it was a legit mistake.

Ya, that's what I think. Very very unfortunate mistake to make. Question is whether he should be fired. Sure, it was a mistake, but he's also a professional who really should do his research... Even when it's as simple as reading a Wikipedia page.Sofia wrote:What are the chances the broadcaster actually knew that about his real father? How many here actually knew it before reading the OP?
