"more skilled" maybe true, but what's kyrie and kd's experience away from lebron and gsw and on their own trying to lead a team??????

you realize "skilled" in basketball parlance means OFFENSE

quote "offense is a skill, i can teach defense".

therefore yes, kd/kyrie is more skilled than mj/scottie or lebron/wade

dont mean they're better , however

It's the same thing every time with Kyrie.
When he has a great game you'll hear current and ex players gush about his skills and how it's a travesty that he isn't top 75 (they don't care about a guy with a better case in Howard though, must not like his handles I guess...)
But when he's off and can't bring anything else to the table, because yes he's more limited than they make it seem (shocker I know).....*crickets*

Read on Twitter

And as several previous posters have pointed out, possessing more skills doesn't necessarily make them the best duo.

Most of these guys are wings/guards who grew up playing hustle/pickup games or 1 on 1 so of course they’re going to glorify those who would shine in those environments. Its the reason why they always feel guys like AI/Melo/Marbury/Irving never get respect imo. Some of this I also blame on Stern for going away from making the traditional big man the stars of the league and basically getting media to want everybody to play like guards and wings. Now thats what everybody has been conditioned to respect now.

Not true, both very all round offensively skilled players but the other duos had other aspects that trump that, and if we add passing skill to the mix, Kyrie and KD are the weakest of the 6 players mentioned.

Neither of these guys are more skilled than Michael Jordan get out with that crap. Michael Jordan averaged 33.5 career in the playoffs, that’s not all athleticism or genetics. He would never have a game like Kyrie and Durant had this recent playoff game.

Really depends how you define skill. KD has incredible fluidity and ball handling for someone his height. But even just compared to LBJ the areas where KD dominates him would be FT shooting by a mile, midrange pullups by a mile and 3 point shooting by 4% for his career.

However, I don't consider KD a better ball handler than LBJ even if KDs crossover looks cooler, he does get stripped quite a bit. LBJ is obviously the much better passer, has post moves and is an extremely gifted finisher with his left hand. I'm not even going to start the MJ comparison.

Kyrie is definitely the flashiest scorer of them all and has otherwordly finishing ability with both hands, plus he can score from anywhere on the court. You can't simply be physical with him or but a long defender on him and expect it to have an impact. Of course, as a passer he isn't anywhere near Jordan, LBJ, Wade.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

People keep saying that this is the kind of D that Curry and Bron sees but I don't even believe that. He's really not getting doubled, let alone tripled. An extra defender may challenge at the end but most of this is just good one on one defense. It just shows you how flawed KD is. Even at 7ft, he can shoot over you but he has never truly developed the Jordan like post game, let alone a 7 footers post game

If he just said better shooters this wouldn't even be a thread. Now we gotta argue what skills are, compare the duos to each other, and question T-Mac's basketball IQ
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

How you use your skills matters.

Take my username for example. Ben Wallace is probably the greatest player who the least amount of skills, while Rasheed Wallace is perhaps the worst player with the best skillsets for a big man (post moves, mid/long range, passing, anchor, help side defense, you name it). I would think Ben Wallace is valued and ranked more highly than Rasheed Wallace in the NBA history books.

Agreed. TMac may also be making a distinction between skills and athleticism. MJ, Pippen, Lebron and Wade would be considered by most to be more athletic than KD and Irving. They all have more competitive fire and better leadership (let's not count leadership as a basketball as opposed to being a life skill).

I'm not sure whether KD and Irving are more skilled than those other duos. They might be. Even if they are more skilled that doesn't make them better players and they certainly are not a greater duo than the others.

NBA basketball players judge their peers "skill level" based solely on-ball isolation. Screen setting isn't a skill. Off ball movement isn't considered. Passing isn't considered. Boxing out isn't a skill. And defense never enters the picture. It is handles, ability to get by 1-1 defender, shoot.

This ignores most of the skills necessary to be a successful NBA player.

How good of a shooter would MJ be if he had KD’s height and could just shoot over everyone? Why do we separate out speed, strength, and body control but not height?

Its debatable. I'd say defense is 80% athleticism and length. When was the last time u saw a laterally slow and short defender get all NBA defense nods?

What short laterally slow player is in the NBA?

You really think Irving is a worse passer than MJ? I consider both pretty good but not great for what it's worth.

Speed, strength, body control, and height are mostly athletic ability and not skill. Body control is the one possibly debatable aspect which has elements of both.
