Randle had one bad season in a career that has been quite good. He's definitely young enough to get back on track. I think you give him another year before trying to trade him for the least desired player in the entire NBA. If he still shoots a low percentage and acts like a fool, he's only paid $25M/yr for three more seasons after this one. That's pretty easy to get off of for a guy that can average 20/10/5.

Westbrook is a has been, Randle is a never been.

One thing I really think though. It takes a really special player to play with Lebron and really eff things up. That's Westbrook.

Think about all the clowns who have played with Lebron and won a chip: Kyrie, JR Smith, Iman,...half these dudes are ex-Knicks, and got paid beyond what they were worth. I really detest Randle, but his issue is really mental. If Lebron can beat him down and bully him into playing real basketball and not being a diva, you'll have yourself a good player who can space the floor and defend without whining and ballhogging and being a terrible teammate. Course, I wouldn't blame you if you don't wanna take that risk on. Still, despite all of Randle's flaws, he's not as bad as a teammate as Kyrie and Lebron made that work for a while.

Even if Randle potentially worked as hard as he could, it still means the Lakers are tied long term to a guy that has significant positional overlap with LeBron and AD. He could be a reclamation project for someone but its not the Lakers.

Agreed I think Randle is a worse contract than Westbrook at this point.

Trades like this can be a win-win but only in the right situation between the right teams.

Lakers don't seem to want to take on significant long-term salary for non-star (especially coming off an off-year.) So from that POV Randle's contract is subjectively worse to the Lakers than Westbrook's. Having to include a 1st makes even less palatable.

OTOH, if the Lakers actually want to keep Lebron beyond this upcoming season, I'd think picking up a 3rd major contributor at some point this year would be critical. Westbrook's salary would seem to be a major part of any such trade, but they have until ASB to pull such a trade.

For the Lakers, it seems likely there's no way they're gonna get a player with as much potential upside as Randle for Westbrook, and the Knicks need to play Toppin and if they can get a major asset for Randle, they should.

Just from a basketball sense where would Randle play?

PG Whoever
SG Whoever
SF Lebron
PF Davis
C Randle?

That's not a cohesive setup imo...too much overlap in skillsets.....
I'm so tired of the typical......

How did Randle and AD play together on the pelicans?

Lebron is gone after next season, so the overlap isn't a huge deal

Pretty well IIRC. They didn't play together too much until Cousins' injury, but that team finished strong even after Boogie went down.
