Markkanen probably works on his game as much as possibly to excel at the NBA level but it's just not working out. There's no reason to hype him up as if he's going to evolve into a superstar.

I'm a Cavs fan who was sad to see him go. I think he's well worth his contract. Also, he's only 25 and big men take longer to develop. Bamba and Bagley looked like they might wash out of the league until the last year of their rookie deals.

You know it's possible to enjoy these Eurobasket performances without making predictions how the performances will transform to the NBA season.

In Eurobasket Markkanen has the size and quickness advantages, which he doesn't have in the NBA. And we're talking about a five year veteran, not some young prospect.

In the NBA Markkanen is a good player with a decent contract at 50 % of max. Unfortunately these kind of players get easily thrown into a trade. They help to match the salaries for a star without being negative value that needs to be compensated with extra picks.

Markkanen reminds me of Mirotic.

They both can have months where they play like stars, but at the end of the day the only thing they’re above average at in a NBA level are midrange shooting, and they’re inconsistent month to month.

LM is not an insignificant loss for the Cavs. I really liked him as the 3rd 7 footer in that lineup. Now I don't expect him to play sf anymore but his size advantage at the position really helped the Cavs that season.

As a Bulls' fan-he was the most disappointing of all the pieces we had. He has a lot of potential but lacked aggression. Of course, he was mismanaged, but most of his average play is due to his mindset more than bad coaching.

Still young and could blossom in Utah. A good piece for Utah to build with

Markkanen is 10 years younger and about to enter his prime. Unlike Scola who was about to retire.

Nice stat line. I'm a believer in Markk and his potential. He's still young and now he will have all the freedom to fulfill what he can be with his new team.

This should be mentioned again, in every page. "so he finally arrived"..what do you mean bruh? He has been the focal point for years on national team. About the game, that is what this thread is about, i loved that he wasn't doubled. Got to show off his diversity and dominance thus playing out his magnum opus to probably becoming GOAT Finnish player. MVP of tournament is on the air and reaching final 4. But all you ask is:"is that all?"

the surprising thing about Markkanen last year was that his team defensive numbers seemed solid.

he should find a role in the NBA for a while.

Giannis posted a 27/11/6 -statline against Croatia in four point win. So I think 50/40 seems to be appropriate prediction for Drummond.

Massive difference between Lauri no. 1 in Finland national team and Lauri in NBA team ( regardless which one). He simply had too many overwhelming advantages against this Croatia team yesterday.
Who's gonna defend him here, washed up Saric returning after acl injury, I doubt he will stay in nba too long after this. He was not fast before, now he moves like a snail.
Simon is too old, Bogdanovic is also at the tail end of his carrer, and he can't push himself to play at both ends anymore. The only guy who could have possibly put some pressure on Markannen was Hezonja, but I have no words to describe what an irresponsible and mentally weak player he is. Other guys are either too slow, young or inexperienced at this level.
In addition, this Croatian team lacks cohesion due to many issues surrounding the entire organization and the team itself.
Plus, Lauri was extra motivated to play in this match, national team games can give you extra motivation, especially if you are a small team and are breaking through for the first time like Finland is at this Eurobasket.

So Drummond in your opinion could do 50 and 40 in a single 40min-elimination match (albeit a FIBA game) when his best playoff performance of his entire career is an 18/16 playing 37min of 48min in a shattering defeat with a -32 (clearly the worst of his team)?
mmmh... ok

16.5 ml per year justifies a 16/8 with excellent efficiency that can do very well as a PF in 30min out of 48 (with a usage of just over 20%)... all that comes in more is a bargain... let's not talk about 28/8 with 60% / 40% / 90% in 27 min out of 40 (with a usage definitely higher than 30%) that would be a superstar performance in nba

The difference in the way he's playing here compared to the NBA is that he looks to be playing with a lot more confidence. He's also the key guy on his team. Makes you wonder how much of that could translate if we put in a similar situation in the NBA. He could potentially do that with the Jazz as long as Sexton isn't jacking 25 shots a night. Or if Will Hardy doesn't turn into Jim Boylen.

That's the consensus it seems. But the Cavs fans saw a little something the Bulls fans didn't get to see because the Cavs used him differently. Did you know he was 2nd in the NBA last year in efficiency within 15 feet of the rim behind Embiid? Did you know he was part of a starting line-up that when healthy was the 2nd ranked defense in the NBA?

The Bulls asked him to be the man in middle, a dominating force, and he failed. The Cavs asked him to be a perimeter help defender and only take the shots if he had an advantage, and he exceeded everyone's expectations as a tall-ball SF.

Just saying the situation matters, more than most give credit for.
