I'm not getting into everyone's agenda on this, but it feels like someone needs to point out DDV is not remotely one of the top white players in the league. This is mostly a guy pumping up a teammate but because he's Iggy he's got to do in the dumbest way possible.

Don’t think so. TON of white basketball players that grow up playing it, and even in the college ranks. In Hockey it seems like most of black community just doesn’t play it period. So not really similar IMO. Baseball maybe would be more relatable than Hockey, but even then lots of great black players relative to NBA.

Whenever I see/hear anything(particularly a critique) about "white" folks, I always take it to mean they're talking about US born whites, aka "foundational whites".

They look at international players differently, under a different context.

While its almost impossible to have a discussion about race without some mental midgets screaming racism, the disappearance of the US born white player is interesting. You'll hear stories from players abroad about how rough their areas/lives were growing up, how in their despair they found basketball and clung to it as a form of a escapism. Maybe US whites dont face the same desperation to escape their lives, and the ones that do, aren't interested in hoops and play other sports. Maybe you need that hyper intense desire to hoop in order to make up for the lack of athletic talents of their more melanated counterparts lol, I gotta be careful with what I say here, this place really isn't made for more than talking ball. Dont want to get too deep into this, not before I see where people dip their toes.

I don't think its the poverty. Look at Luka he's from a rich family. It's that around the time of Jordan white Americans just gave up hope of competing. back in the 80s, early 90s with Bird / McHale / Stockton types white dudes came into the league with confidence they could be the best. Now I don't see that from Foundational White Americans ( ). I do see it from euro white dudes like Luka or Jokic.

Love Iguodala the player, but he says some really dumb things sometimes and other times he’s pretty smart. Was nonstop joke complaining about being underpaid last year. If he was paid what he was thought he was worth he would have been severely overpaid. He was fairly compensated to be a part time vet presence.

Just look at the %'s. It's pretty clear that black people excel at the sport.

In my experience playing competitive basketball (HS prep and College), white players have to constantly prove we belong. I never felt like it was racist or discriminatory, it was simply the reality of being a minority in the sport. If you're an outlier, people are always going to want you to prove yourself.
