LOL at DLO covering his own stink by complaining about another player.

Re: D'Angelo Russell was openly complaining about Gobert
On the devil's advocate side of things, considering Gobert has shown no inkling to try and improve his offensive game at all, I can see why teammates have soured on playing with him over the years.
I don't see nothing wrong with complaining about a guy that is getting paid 40 million dollars at 30 years old and he is still terrible at one side of the ball.
You traded a guy that we liked for a guy nobody wants to play with. For a guy that doesn't make us better. For a guy that screws up any sort of offense because he has no game. He's not a vertical spacer. He's not a good pick and roll target because he can't catch. He can't pass. He's a big freaking zero.
You do realize that Gobert's statistics are pretty much identical this season to what he did in Utah the previous 6 seasons. Scores about the same per minute, rebounds about the same per minute, shoots a real high 2pt FG%. His shot blocking is down but you can go to the NBA.com statistics website and see his shot defense has still been really good. Look up his FG% allowed differential - it's among the best/lowest for players who have faced the most FGAs on defense.
What were you expecting from a player who was signed such that his first season with you was at the age of 30? For him to all of a sudden become a great scorer as well as be a DPOY candidate?
Minnesota now ranks in the league better on defense as a team (top 10 last I checked) than they have the past 5 seasons, and much better with Gobert on the floor than when he is off.
The problem here isn't Gobert. If you want to blame anyone blame Timberwolves management for a gross overpay, both in assets to obtain him and in salary. Or a mealy-mouthed PG in D'Angelo Russell who doesn't play a lick of defense and who clearly thinks the world of himself.

Russell is the definition of a career loser. He's a detriment to every team he plays for. He needs to shut his mouth because he's lucky teams still don't realize how secretly terrible he really is. The only teams that should seek his services are those looking to tank.

All in all, sounds like a split was long overdue.
Silly. Gobert just isn't that talented in the post. Some people have it. He's improved from when he got drafted. Just hit his ceiling. Oberall just awkward footwork and coordination. Is not him not trying. Showing his passion on the court I would never accuse him of notr trying. dudes competitive. Just not at all a shot creator or someone you can pass the ball to get you some points

I hate DLo and would like to get on him about this but there's no way he's doing as much open complaining about Gobert during games as I am. I'm not a hypocrite.

Re: D'Angelo Russell was openly complaining about Gobert
D'lo gets under rated a lot. This year he's been a great shooter. Awesome off the dribble shooter as well. Which in the NBA is an under rated in the 3/D era a dude who can make shots like that with good efficiency. While never figured out chemistry with Gobert is a good passer. But
I will always hate how he's a perfect sized PG and always got out-rebounded. Had to be hidden and could only play defense in a gambler on passing lanes, to be hidden on the worst guard on opposition teams and be that bad at boxing out. A skill which all it is, being aware of crashing players your man and putting your body in an angle, the mosth teachable skill. Was a killer.
Even guys who have no talent/unathletic like Luka. Hell even unathletic players who are amazing defenders like CP/Lonzo if they are not in the defensive play, box out. Dlo doesn't. It's a thing where if one player cbf the team suffers. Even Westbrook who pouting and hated life boxed out. I've only ever seen Harden who was as bad
We are a super under rated defensive longboi team of McDaniels/Edwards/Gobert and Anderson. Apart from Edwards who is the *newest* and hasn't been playing high level organized team ball for 5 years.Dlo was the most fustraiting defender/rebounder. 5'9" Mclaughlan gave up so much height but overall defensively we were better because he boxed out
I hope Lebron rides his ass. He's too talented and in a perfect position now to not at least try and do the team thing. Because he might absolutely end up a vital piece in the Lakers who are talented enough to win the west, it would be a shame if Ham just benches him
A very good reason he's been traded 4 times now

People ride gobert for only being a threat on one side of the court. D-Lo is exactly the same. He's a walking turnstile.

Gobert dramatically improved his offensive game over his career, he's very likely close to his ceiling there. All while covering up for teammates mistakes everywhere.magee wrote:On the devil's advocate side of things, considering Gobert has shown no inkling to try and improve his offensive game at all, I can see why teammates have soured on playing with him over the years.
It must be a personality thing.

On top of that, the Wolves didn't need Gobert.
I would be mad, they loved Pat Bev and now they got freaking Rudy Gobert lol.
Most NBA players can't stand an offensively inept guy.
Yeah, I am going to be loud and about a guy like Gobert wrecking my freaking offense.
that sounds like a fantastic way to improve things, such a player is definitely a keeper

and Kobe was deservedly lambasted because of such attitude, that culminated in that ridiculous game 7 second half vs Phoenix.

I think a combination of things make him an easy target/scapegoat for other players. Particularly ball handling scoring guards who play no d. He gets paid MAX money to do something they suck at yet is absolutely amateur level at things that come as second nature to them. Like catching a basketball.
I don't think it helps that he's French. A language that is notorious for seeming annoying and pompous in it's mannerisms and annunciations to native English speakers.
I'm not defending it just giving my armchair observation. I've loathed DLO irrationally long before he gave me plenty of reasons to.

This is not okay to say publicly at all regardless of how Gobert acts. The Young accident only adds salt to this open complaining by him. I would not want such personality in my locker room.

Honestly D-Lo would be great for that Westbrook role off the bench.

No news here. Donovan Mitchell probably didn't complain about it publicly while he was with the Jazz but he has shared some quotes in Cleveland about finally having dynamic bigs on offense. That clearly indicate Gobert is a negative for a team's offense. It may not look great to do it openly, but do you think a winner like Michael Jordan would let Gobert get away with it? He would kill him in practice on and off the court.
And yet, the wolves gave more picks for Gobert than the Suns did for KD... go figure.

Like catching a basketball. His ineptitude on offense makes it harder for them to succeed at what will get them paid. On top of that it's probably easy for them to chalk up his defensive ability solely to physical traits they don't possess like being 7ft+.

his "ineptness on offense" has always been because he's mostly played with scorer who don't know how to run the PnR and/or he's not part of the offense. They never ran plays for him beyond diving in the PnR, which, combined with putbacks, was good enough for him to lead the league in FG% so his hands can't be that bad. As to why he's hated, I hear he calls dudes out when they're being high usage chuckers with low BBIQ and it rubs them the wrong way lol.

Lol. So do you think Dennis Rodman was positive in their team's offense when they threepeat? He's averaging 5+ ppg in that 3 years span. Gobert's the main reason why Jazz clinched the top seed in the West because he know his role in their team, kinda like Rodman.

Gobert was the most overrated player on this board. Total donkey on offense. I would be mad if I have to play with him too. He was never Top 10 player in the league no matter what advanced hipster statistics told.

Re: D'Angelo Russell was openly complaining about Gobert
small players like d'lo think that to be such a great defender you just need to be big like gobert, have a wingspan, etc. and then you need to stand in the paint and that's it. And to be a Dlo you have to have 'skill, craftsmanship' etc. it's an ridiculous statement, but DLO is not the only one - Harden said the same thing about Giannis. Such defenders do not appreciate defense and do not respect players whose game depends on it.
it's stupid because dlo is just as bad on the D side as Rudy is on the offense, but he's had star treatment since high school and is a one dimensional player, so if someone can't play on HIS side of the floor, scrub.
I like Russell, but his attitude has been unacceptable lately, and at the Wolves he needed to be someone he is not. Next to Lebron, he can play the role of JR Smith and it would be great. The Wolves don't need that. It was the same with Wiggins - the Wolves needed a star and Wiggins was not one, in GSW he played the role of Harrison Barnes and it worked out perfectly. In the series with Memphis Russell was unplayable, he has too big an ego to be a smiple pg, and he doesn't have enough skillset to be the star and main guy he thinks he is.
good luck on la

yeah and Mikal Bridges, one of the best wing defender on the league, and wolves gave michael beasley and vanderbilt who plays as bad on offense as gobert. Have you read that there were teams that wanted to gave FOUR FIRST PICKS just for Bridges? It's logical that the Wolves had to give away more in picks if they didn't have that much talent. If they gave up McDaniels, they would probably give fewer picks.
