I didn't realize people even said this still. It's not 2012 anymore

Are people still saying this in 2023?
Haven't heard anyone say that in the last 5 years

Seems like a rather steep fine however. He apologized on Twitter that’s enough time to move on. He’s still a kid
Steep? It's 40k for a guy earning 10M. That's 0,004%. It's 40$ out of 10K.

Where is the outrage from nets owner , a suspension , and the public humiliation? Just goes to show the kyrie thing was personal and he is held to a different standards.
My friend, you have to realize that what Kyrie did (platforming a blatantly anti-Semitic movie based on a book that denies the Holocaust while also pushing a number of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories) and then doubling down on it was orders of magnitude worse than Cam Thomas making an anti-gay remark and then apologizing for it. There really isn't a comparison between the two.
Anthony Edwards made a much worse anti-gay remark earlier the season, he apologized for it profusely and it was soon forgotten. In general, people are usually willing to forget and forgive if someone admits their mistake. It simply took Kyrie around a month and a half to do that.

Its basically just hetero males getting it straight that they don't play for the other team after making a remark that could give gay men the wrong message. We don't want them getting the wrong message. Its just proper communication. Keep doing you, Mr Cam Thomas. The NBA should know better. But of course not.
you have to understand it's not about "protecting" gay people. corporations don't care about anyone including gay people. but gay people can be used to shield a corporation from criticism.
the same way Apple will show you a lot of rainbow flags but there are suicide nets on the factories where the chinese slaves make the computers. if the corporation talks about how they love gay people you aren't allowed to criticize them or you can be slandered with homophobe/racist/etc.
it's similar to why there are now women commentators on all sports even though obviously there shouldn't be. it's just another thing meant to disrespect you and demoralize you so you don't believe men can ever stand up for themselves, so you aren't motivated to fight back, and ultimately it's part of a strategy to deprive you of you rights and turn you into an amazon slave.
Wtf...this might be the single dumbest post I've ever seen on RealGM which is really saying something

That’s still a lot of money. I get your point but I guarantee you he views it as somewhat significant

If he has said "pause" he'd have been in the clear.

It's clearly wrong to say on TV "no-homo". It adds to being wrong you would never hear a gay person say "no-hetero" or a woman say "no-homo" for that matter when complimenting the gender(s) they're not attracted to.
Call me woke but I would never use the term 'no-homo' amongst people like my boss, colleagues or upper management. This is crazy but sometimes I filter my speech depending on the environment I find myself in. I know, super crazy.
Is it highly offensive? I don't think so. Apologize and carry on.

That's true. I'll give you this, 1% of 10M is way more money than 1% of 10k. But since I've never had 10M, don't know if they feel about 40k as I feel about 40$. If I'm ever rich i'll get back to you lol.

I agree. Definitely not highly offensive. I'd say it's worse bc he's on TV as a public person with lots of young fans rather than bc he said in front of his boss and colleagues.
We can crack clearly offensive jokes among friends, but when you're a public person who can have a big impact on people I think it's the right move to apologise and accept a fine when these things happen.

Re: Cam Thomas fined for anti-gay remark
I'm assuming the fine was due to using the word "homo" more than the joke itself, but you can't be too sure nowadays. If he said "pause" instead, then I'm guessing that interview would have been forgotten about 10 seconds after it ended.

Cancel culture phrase is so overrrated. Bill maher said N word , Joe Rogan said N word and they still plat formed. Dana white took part in DV and everyone just let it slide. We pick and choose who we go after and it’s obvious society doesn’t like kyrie so he gets treated differently

Cancel culture doesn't mean they always win. It just means there is a mass of idiots who have nothing better to do than get outraged at things that didn't have illintent.
Intention matters more to me but whatever... don't wanna engage In a lengthy discussion on this. It's so annoying lol.

It’s offensive because it indicates that straight men must be constantly on guard to "prove" their heterosexuality, and by extension that homosexuality is a bad thing.

“Homo” is obviously a well-known slur for gay people and it’s just disingenuous to pretend otherwise.
Does intent matter? Lot of kids, and some young adults use 'gay' as a kind of insult toward things they don't like (i.e 'thats gay') without intending it to be a homophonic insult on gay people. Most of these people are probably not anti-gay, and certainly saying that alone doesn't indicate that they are. I wouldnt call those people homophobic and wouldnt make them apologize if they werent intending to insult someone gay specifically.

So it's offensive because you had to make a lot of mental gymnastics to make it offensive. Got it.
