All casuals right now are impressed by Jokic.
He doesn’t play for the Lakers or Warriors.

It honestly sounds like she really hasnt watched that many games of his ever. Not just in person but in general.
Why would she, he's a dude picked last in All Star game that barely anyone noticed he played in.
Underrated post. Giving this the love it should have gotten.

ESPN/ABC would have no one to blame but themselves. Just think if they actually gave Jokic the same kind of coverage that other stars get. Maybe casuals would be more familiar with Jokic and be more inclined to tune in and watch him.
But when you got ESPN personalities that their job is to cover NBA games flat out admitting this is the first time they're actually watching him. Ya thats on ESPN. Jokic should be a very easy sell by now for the casual audience.
I have this discussion about boxing sometimes but casuals like what they like and it's not a European center who can't dunk unfortunately, especially playing in freaking Denver. Joker is great but he's only a player for the hard cores, no casual appeal whatsoever.

Re: Lisa Salters impressed by Jokic
It’s been abundantly clear for years that the vast majority of the national media just doesn’t watch the Nuggets (and most other small market teams), but it’s pretty funny to hear someone flat out admit it like this. All these other tv personalities that have come out of the woodwork the last two days to give Jokic credit are also essentially admitting they never actually watched him play until now. Nuggets fans have been complaining about this for a long time because it’s always been painfully obvious every single time someone like Perkins or even Wilbon try to talk about them.
When your literal job is to watch and be an expert of the game, I think this would be a bad look even if they were talking about an 8 seeded team like the Timberwolves. But when you’re talking about a team that sat atop the standings for most of the year with the reigning back-to-back MVP, it’s shameful and should be inexcusable.

Re: Lisa Salters impressed by Jokic
Jokic has consistently underperformed in the playoffs until this season. He was the player equivalent of that Hawks team that won 60+ games. We knew he was a great regular season player, but it didn't translate to the playoffs until now. Jokic is showing that he's worked on his game, and got a lot better compared to a season or two ago. But we cant blame people for not seeing what wasn't there before. He's surprising a lot of people now.

Most national media doesn't watch many(any) games besides the games they personally cover and maybe the later rounds of the playoffs(Im talking way bigger basketball minds than Lisa Salters too), Denver is one of the more anonymous NBA cities and Jokic hasn't had a ton of playoff success yet so not surprising to me.

What? Jokic literally has the highest career playoff PER of all time. Right above Jordan and LeBron. It's not a perfect stat, but if you look at the top of the list, you see who you think should be there. He's averaged 27/12/7 across his playoff career. He hasn't always had the team to win around him in the past two years, but he's always been a playoff monster.
Edit: I just double checked and it's not above MJ and LeBron. It's above MJ and George Mikan, which is kind of cool. LeBron is 4th, though, so I guess I'll still consider him an ok player.

nope, she was very clear about her not knowing he was that good
you don't need to watch him in person to know how good he is
she also says "10 years", she literally has no clue how long this dude has been in Denver
but this is America (no offense guys), the land where most ppl don't even know very basic geography of anywhere that's outside the states
when I say basic I mean stuff like - is Asia or Europe a country or a continent or whatever and where it's located on the world map
Well, if your job is to know these things...
Most americans who work in their respective industries are at least knowledgeable of basic facts of their profession. Knowing how good jokic is..pretty much NBA 101. For someone hired to talk about the NBA, that is ridiculous. Its like a head chef trying to fry an egg and proclaiming they didnt realize how easy it was this whole time.. Gross incompetence. Now some college kid who has never had to cook a day in his life..yea I wouldnt be surprised if he didnt know how to cook an egg.

Jokic's playoff stats prior to this season:
26.4ppg , 11.5 rpg, 56.7% efg, 60.7%TS..including a trip to the WCF during that time. I don't know what led to your conclusion, but you are talking out of your behind like a casual would...do better

There is a reason why the NFL (18 billion) & MLB (10.8 billion) outearn the NBA (10 billion) global avenue, and they don't need the Cowboys or the Yankees to be in championship game every year. That's more on the NBA to blame than it is Denver's fault.

Yea, and the guy just turned 28 a few months ago...meaning all of that quality playoff play was achieved as a youngish player

Since you sound like a casual, let me explain to you in a casual term.
You know Kawhi Leonard, the playoff assassin who takes the regular season off due to leg injuries? The last time he was healthy, he blew a 3-1 to that one guy you were just referring to.

Who watches the All-Star game to gauge how good players really are? Not even casuals do that unless they are super casuals.

Re: Lisa Salters impressed by Jokic
Such unprofessional people should feel shame.
I bet she won't.
It's not a matter of intelligence/capability, many people are not good at their jobs because that's all they can, i got no problem with this. What makes me angry is that she doesn't even care to do her job properly. No way you're an NBA sportcaster for Espn and you haven't watched a top-5 player.
I bet there are many American journalists that love basketball and deserved a job like hers. Sad that they are unemployed or having a sh***y job.

The last 2 seasons he got bumped in the first and second rounds. His assist number cratered during both post seasons. His turnover numbers were abysmal last post season, and he was being exploited on defense both playoff 'runs'. His offensive numbers looked great, but the results and defense indicated that he was a defensively soft center that gets exploited on that end of the floor (a big problem at his position) and won't be able to progress deep into the playoffs when teams target him. That was proven his last few seasons where he got bounced quickly and was regularly targeted on defense in the PNR.
His defense has improved this year, and so far it looks like he's figured out how maintain a winning impact this post season. He used to be like the DeRozan Raptors every post season, but he's looking like the Kawhi version of that team now.
No hate on Jokic, he's looking like the best player in the league this season. But there's a reason he didnt win a 3rd MVP and a lot of analysts are surprised at what he's doing. Because he was not this guy in the past. Credit to him for working on his game and looking like a legit playoff monster now. We'll have to see how he finishes against the Lakers and Celtics/Heat before we can fully judge him, but I think it's safe to say he's made doubters think again.

A lotta folks are exposing themselves when it comes to Jokic, the reversals and revelations have been incredible.
Correct. I'm pretty sure half of the Jokic praise is coming from people who hadn't watched a game of his until 2 week ago and are firmly in the "born again Christian" phase of being overly enthusiastic right now.
