His defense isn't as bad as people make it out to be, he's an average defender for the most part, not really a negative.

Maybe Myles Turner helps cover for him a bit in that regard?

Yeah, definitely, but he’s going to have to get a lot better on D if he wants to get a big second contract and solidify himself as a starter. Great gamble for Indy.

I think Knicks pivot to sign DD and then look to move IQ/Fournier for a guy like OG…. (Which would have left Obi without a role on the Knicks)

Knicks are pretty much running it back and waiting until next year for any big trades

"Young" starts to be questionable. He is 25, same age as Dennis Smith Jr. A year older then the Luka draftclass

They absolutely suck at scouting. I called this pick a bust the moment it happened. Obi was always trash.

How does a top 8 pick, 4 year college pro, not get playing time for 3 years? If he were actually any good, he would have played and gotten opportunities.

Austin Reaves went undrafted and somehow became a starter on a contending team within 2 years. What’s Obi’s excuse? What’s the Knicks excuse for drafting another bust again?

In fairness, they took Quickley in this same draft which was seen as a reach and he was the runner up to 6th man of the year.

Every team misses in the draft, it's unpredictable.

Very simple. Thibs loves Randle, hates Obi. Randle gets unlimited leash, plays lazy on D, no effort, stat padding scrub. Obi gets the shortest leash possible. One mistake and he'd get pulled every time.

But every year we see teams unloading some contracts to other teams in order to open cap space.

I think this is the Knicks' strategy.

They seem to be very prudent under this new GM, I believe they are waiting for the right opportunity to either get a valuable player basically for free, or to accumulate assets (picks, etc) to later trade for a star.

yeah but they have to same time..it was between him and iq...ill much rather pay IQ then extend both...obi is a high energy guy...fan favorite (mostly because he was from brooklyn) but he is replaceable..its really not the end of the world

Lotto pick, home grown who cried at being picked by the Knicks traded for a surprisingly low return. Super inefficient but he'll get the ball just where he likes it with Haliburton. Only way is up for him.

He obviously doesn't have the same upside but I don't see why he couldn't play a crappier version of the MPJ role on Denver, surprised that the Nuggets didn't nab him for this price, esp. after losing Bruce Brown.
