He wasn't some McGee level failure. For $10 mil or less his next team will end up being really happy I think

Until they watch him on defense that is.

Also a Mavs fan here and I will say this about Wood, he wasn’t a locker room problem. All the rumors out of Houston were that he’s a malcontent but he never really showed that in Dallas. And he definitely can get buckets.

The problem with Wood is that he’s a very low IQ guy. He has no concept of playing within a defense or offense. He’s literally just running around out there running in to guys. He has to be told his offensive and defensive assignments on every play (during the game). He’s also a ball stopper on offense. Instead of playing within the offense he just attacks. The Mavs biggest need right now is a center and they have zero interest in bringing Wood back, even at the vet min.

+ he sets the worst screens that I've ever seen, and that's appalling for a big man in this era of PnR offense. It's not just he doesn't put the effort in it, he literally doesn't know how to do it.

if Chicago was listening to RealGM General, for better or worse, they would have never went for any of the win now moves they already tried the last couple years. This place has a risk tolerance of -100%

Risk moves are fine when you have a peak LeBron or a Jokic, or even a Luka, or even a Tatum, or a Harden. They are, however, a terrible idea when you don't even really have a top 20 player. I mean, at that point I question whether or not the owner simply wants a borderline playoff team and sell tickets, which isn't a bad thing, but it's definitely not the way to win.

I still don't buy any of the Wood bs
He's actually a good player by the eye test, raw stats and advanced.
if his value is that low and he comes at a bargain price for a team like the Bulls that isn't really going anywhere anyway it might be the best thing to happen to him

he had a fine season in Dallas, he wasn't the problem whatsoever
he's also just entering his prime

he can still revive his career, I see him impact wise as similar to a guy like Portis who punched Mirotic when he was a bull and eventually was a contributing team member for the Bucks

he's actually a pretty decent role player, I think you'll like him

no doubt he's not big in the i.q dpt but he's got some actual NBA skills, he can shoot, score, rebound some and his lack of defense is overstated. def not a good defender but he's not half as bad as his rep

he could be useful as a complimentary player on a cheap contract

OP claimed he started this so ppl could trash Wood to deter the Bulls FO from signing him but in reality - the Bulls could do much worse

I can’t stand him personally I think all the drama is true and I don’t think it’s a good idea to ever willingly accept cancer into the organism. He may be tantalizingly available and tremendous on paper but I don’t like him and I don’t think he’s that good on the court.
