Stop blaming these companies for doing things like this… blame the idiots who waste their money on this crap.

But it doesn't make sense in 2k. You have to pay $80 upfront for the game AND pay extra if you want to play certain modes? That's nonsense.

It's not nonsense, it's a "business model".

And, unfortunately for us gamers, a very profitable one...

I dropped the NBA 2K series back in 2K14, never looked back since.

Some of the games were given for "free" in PS Plus since then, I never bothered even downloading them.

sure in the short term. But people will stop playing, as you yourself have stopped. Unless the game goes free to play

I play overwatch. In overwatch 1, the loot system was extremely consumer friendly. You paid for the game (like $30 on PC, $60 on consoles) and got all the new characters, maps and cosmetics whenever they dropped. Unfortunately Blizzard couldn't keep putting out new content with no means of consistent cash inflow (you could buy lootboxes but i had so many unopened loot boxes just from playing the game, you didn't really need to buy them). In OW 2 they switched to F2P and added the battlepasses. It's just a change in the industry started by games like fortnight. Players, especially younger players, can't pay the big fee up front but don't mind paying the $10 or whatever every few months.

I can't imagine 2k's current model where they charge you twice to be sustainable long term.

I really hope you're right in the long term.

But, the way things are going nowadays, this will not stop.

These companies are constantly shattering their financial goals. They are swimming in money, as it's said here in Brazil. The financial reports always show very good results.

Even if less people bought their games, they would be selling so much in microtransactions it wouldn't matter. See the GTA 5 example made by someone a few posts earlier.

Roughly 10 years ago, there was a somewhat famous anecdote where an EA executive said that, in Mass Effect 3 (which itself had a pretty crappy multiplayer mode) a guy bought like 20k dollars in microtransactions. These companies are laughing all the way to the bank.

i hated how they didnt make mycareer in offline mode after they stop supporting older installments. before they would just convert what u earn into in game points for skillpoints. i m still on 2k21 and cant play mycareer anymore.

Theyre just annoying. tbh, i would even rather pay a subscription fee every month rather than all this stuff they wanna do. Its like when they crackheads finding new schemes to get your attention to ask for money.

I'm surprised people even support paying for online multiplayer let alone battle passes for yearly titles

Is 2k23 any good? Last one I played was probably 2k20 but have given up.

The game (gameplay specifically) does get better year-to-year, with the occasional misstep that gets corrected. Only the misinformed would claim otherwise.

Still, this season pass stuff is pretty shady. Not impressed.

I stopped at 2k20, not giving another cent to 2K.

The game improves every year, the battlepass is over blown, as we don't how much of a difference it will make, as someone who plays myteam regularly I don't feel at a disadvantage if i don't buy vc's sure it takes a little longer to get things but that makes it fun.

I do my own ratings on my PC version.

Pretty much all I do is simulation modes, and they’re pretty lacking. Im surprised no games studio has made a specialised GM simulation game for the NBA.
