In full disclosure, as a Lakers fan I wasn’t a big advocate for signing Woods. The biggest argument that I had for bringing in Woods was as AD’s mini replacement on the offensive end if he were to miss considerable time due to injury. That makes sense.

With that said I have concerns with his problematic history with previous franchises and questionable attitude/motor on the defensive end. We can potentially have a logjam at the forward positions and hopefully Darvin and Lebron manages playing time expectations and egos. It’s only a vet minimum deal with a 2nd year player option so I’m not too worried about it. Hopefully I’m proven wrong and he exceeds my expectations but I probably would have gone a different route.

He is known as the worst defensive big in the league.

As others have stated, he won't play 2 minutes in the PO's and his role is regular season minute eater. He has no value to younger teams since he's already late 20's and none to contenders since he can't play in the PO's.

He's only played for Detroit, Houston, and Dallas. Now sure often times a player just is what they are, but I'd like to see him in like say Miami's system for a year before giving up on him, especially at the min nothing to lose. But we'll see how he does in LA.

I think his defensive deficiencies are overstated. Maybe someone can provide some statistical evidence, but I've never seen it.

Even if he's a horrendous defender, he's a 6'10" PF who can shoot and give you 20ppg a night, and he's entering his prime years.

$2.7m per year? He needs a new agent.

His box score numbers are fine and he even rates out as a positive impact player in some stats. Im not saying he's great, but he's certainly better than 2.7mill/year 2 months into FA. He must be a terrible locker room addition

Right. Gabriel hustles but doesn't fit their schemes on either end of the floor. Your energy guy can't be a black hole. Wood is a great pickup.

Despite his reputation I don't view wood as a net negative player, he scores on elite efficiency and shoots the 3 ball very well. He can be a contributor and then ride the pine in the playoffs. Playing with LeBron will be great for him.

Nice pickup for the Lakers as a bench scorer to give AD and LeBron more rest.

Lakers fans now: "he's efficient, versatile, modern big, great stats... steal!"

Lakers fans during the season: "it will get better, he's getting acquainted with the guys"

His stats and size SCREAM 6 man of the year candidate - his salary and 8 teams in 8 years says he will be playing against Dwight in 2 years of this doesn’t work out

He's not so much an impact player as just a guy who can fill a rotation hole and keep it from being a negative impact situation where you have to play guys who really shouldn't get minutes outside of garbage time.

You just described Christian Wood.

I mean, they got him for a vet min contract, he is definitely worth taking a flyer on at that price.

Pretty sure the team got him for his offense, not defense.

Plus he will be playing with good defensive talent like Vanderbilt, AD, etc. He's a huge upgrade over the likes of Wenyen Gabriel at least.

Wood and Bruce Brown were part of my ideal Lakers offseason. Lakers instead got Wood, Prince and Vincent. Not ideal but at least Lakers have a setup now where they have a team of isolation scorers.

DLo, Reaves, LeBron, Rui, Davis -- Vincent, Prince, Wood
These 8 players don't need a playmaker, they can all get buckets from isolation. If Christie makes a step up this season then he'd be 9th.

I still think Trading DLo or Vincent for an upgrade defensively at the guard spot (like Caruso or Brown) would complete this team.

Not sure what to expect of him but the center position was desperately thin with just AD playing out of position there and then Jaxson Hayes, who is not mentally reliable. The Lakers must have had all the info they needed courtesy of Duds, Kidd and all the ex-Lakers on the Mavs coaching staff so they must be banking on Wood not being too much of a drag around LeBron.
