Probably some useless **** regular season game. He has zero good playoff moments. His playoff career high might be winning the play-in last year, because when he was Raptor most of the series' won by Toronto were in spite, not because, of Demar Derozan.

He is for sure knocking on the door. But I think he needs a meaningful playoff run to support it.

Ginobili made HoF and only made all NBA 3rd team.

That's interesting though seems more reflective of a poor understanding of how good Ginobili was. And he also had his international achievements.

Mitch Richmond made it easier for a lot of subsequent guys to get in. A guy with good scoring numbers for a decade, mostly flying low on everyone's radar based on his persona/style of game, playing on mostly forgettable teams. He was the epitome of a 23 ppg type player on a lottery team that everyone overlooks.

Unless I missed it: I'm really surprised that no one else referenced Basketball Reference's Hall of Fame Probability!!

They actually predict that he currently has less than a 50% chance of getting in. Some names who score a higher likelihood include Rondo, Shawn Marion, and Joe Johnson.

Butler for some reason only has a 72% probability when he should be a 1st ballot hall of famer.

Jokic is only 86% when he's already a two time MVP and champion and easy 1st ballot hall of famer if he retired today.

Kevin Love is ahead of Butler and Klay, which doesn't make sense.

Re: Jokic -- There's literally one eligible player in NBA history who has an 86% probability and isn't in the Hall so, yeah he's in. He's just 27 and doesn't have *quite* as air-tight of a case as LeBron or KD.

Love has a ring, an MIP award, All-NBA appearances, and racked up league leading stats in Minny - all of which is really easy to forget!

Klay's resume is probably a little thinner than some HOFers in terms of league leader boards, ditto Jimmy -- again they'll both get in.

Everyone’s agreed he doesn’t deserve it, but a lot of people tend to think he will. Well BB-ref currently lists his HOF probability at 42.4% and that doesn’t account for his reputation being worse than pure numbers would suggest. I don’t think he gets in. Stuff like total points is less and less important to voters all the time and Derozan certainly won’t be going in first ballot or anything so by the time he’s getting serious consideration, it will mean even less.

Now if he plays another 5 years, scores another 7K points to the point he’s borderline top 10 all-time in points, does that likely change? Sure. I don’t see it though. Derozan just turned 34. Melo still looked like a superstar his age 32 season in New York. After he left the Knicks, he really had nothing. Scored 1261, 134, 825, 924, and 919 in his final 5 seasons. I think the same thing will happen to Derozan soon where he’ll find the big role as the alpha scorer isn’t so available any more and without it, he’s not that great. I say he retires outside the top 20 in total points and never makes the Hall.

Nah. Nobody looks at Lowry as that guy. He was important, but DeRozan was the one with the weight of The North on his shoulders, Lowry never felt that. Was always a supporting character.

And by nobody you mean pretty much every single Raptors fan. Lowry was always a far more impactful player and in the playoffs even the box score stats favored Lowry. Raw ppg is literally the only argument for Derozan

I mean he's averaging 25 a game the last two seasons. The guy is supercrafty and works very hard. His efficiency isn't hurting either, he's only finding more efficient shots. The other thing that's gotten unmentioned about derozan is that he's a team player and averaging nearly 6 assists over the last 6 or so seasons too. He gets 8 FREE THROWS a game. 8 free makes at the line a game.

I used to joke that at age 35 he finds a three point shot and will have a career season and that's actually possible too. His turnovers are ridiculous low for a guy averaging 25 ppg AND doing some playmaking too. His bball offensive rating is high.

Why am I defending this guy when I don't like him much as a player I'll never know.

Derozan arguably loves bball and isn't quitting any time soon, he ain't having a "Melo" dropoff either. He can draw fouls, pass and get crafty bucktes for at least 3 more years.
