I will not argue against the french being weak and look stupid here, but Joel Embiid has been a French citizen for 3 years and American citizen for 2 years now :)

lol I don't why people are denying it when he himself is saying he lived there.

Embiid an American. He finished high school in America, went to college in America and when he retires is gonna live in America.

I know he grew up in a Cameroon and there are a lot of French ties to that country, but he isn’t French. Lol.

Don't forget, he played AAU basketball in the United States. Joel Embiid is a product of US basketball. The United States trained him, not France, not Cameroon.

Will France go away from Gobert? They can’t right. USA struggled to rebound at times today, but maybe because Serbia is extra active

Embiid is American because he can put a ball through a hoop, let's get real. I agree that French fans booing him are ridiculous, but are we seriously going to pretend that Embiid being arguably the second best player in the NBA while also addressing team USA's biggest need isn't the reason he's an American now?

Team USA poached Embiid from Cameroon. This unfortunately happens in soccer too where nations nationalize African players to strengthen their teams rather than letting those countries develop their own squads. I don't blame the players, but I've never been a fan of this. Would much rather see the underdogs have fighting chance and inspire a new generation of talent rather than watching the rich get richer by nationalizing their players.

I respect Luka for not wanting to take the easy route, eventhough it ended up costing him a spot at the Olympics.

The world understands that Wemby got 70 points dropped on him. That will never change. The NY Times reports it as such...

One thing I’ve always wondered - why does FIBA have diff rules from the NBA? It was established later right?

Applying this same logic, Luka Doncic and Lionel Messi are both Spanish.

Embiid was discovered at a basketball camp at age 16 in Cameroon and brought to the US to develop his skillset. People are acting like the dude had never seen a basketball before he landed in the US.

Luka and Messi were both brought over to Spain at age 13 for the same reason.

Embiid can play for whatever team he wants to play for, but let's just call a spade a spade shall we?

That's not what people mean when they say that the US is a country of immigrants lol. The US is one of the most difficult countries to immigrate to. I know people who went to ivy league schools and decided to leave the US because it was too difficult to get a work visa.

The majority of the country is descendent from immigrants, some of the first presidents didn't even have English as their first language. That's why the US is referred to as a nation of immigrants. Not because the country is so welcoming towards immigrants in present day America.

When did Luka first begin playing for his country? I see that as a TEENAGER, 17 years of age Doncis lead Slovenia to a Eurobasket title. So you are wrong. His history is nothing like Embiid's. You are wrong or lying.

Luka was brought over to Spain at age 13 to further develop his basketball skills for real Madrid. Embiid was discovered at a basketball camp in Cameroon at age 16 and was brought over to the US to further develop his basketball skills.

I couldn't have been more clear about this in my previous post.

Luka decided to continue to play for his country of birth in national competitions. That's exactly why I said.

What did I lie about?

This is why I hate RealGM sometimes, people get too emotional when their arguments backfire and have to resort to claiming that other people lied to try to salvage their position. The saddest part is that a poll on this board showed that the majority of people here around 40 years old, yet continue to get all up in their feelings about this stuff.

You said the logic is the same. Their histories are different so the logic can't be the same. Luka played for his nation as a teenager. Embiid never did. You failed to mention Luka playing for his nation as a teenager. So you are simply wrong or lying.

A vast number of countries has immigrants in governemental positions. If anything, in France embiid could theoretically become prime minister whereas in the US he couldn't. Just like Arnold could never become more than a governor, even if he wanted to become president. So applying your governement argument, France has more of a claim to the "nation of immigrants" title than the US does.

Unfortunately for you, this doesn't change the reason why the US is referred to as a nation of immigrants, which, again, is because the majority of people are decented from immigrants and not in fact native American.

I don't think so, France would love Embiid's offense. They're living on defense at the moment.

France also likely do better in group stage and the order of play is likely completely twisted.

Embiid is an absolutely great player. I am a Celtics fan too. Come on now.
