He's currently #8 on the all time scoring list. He says he intends on playing until the wheels fall off so I expect him to be top 3 on the all time list.

On the other hand when you watch him on a game he is on and he is hitting everything being 6''11 he is so impressive and he has the longevity going for him. I think he is an amazing scorer but not elite in any other aspect of his game as the truly greats are.

I put him in the 17-19 range

From current players I have Lebron, Curry, Jokic, Giannis ahead of him already. I expect Wemby and Doncic will also pass him if they stay healthy

If you don’t put stock in his warriors championships then you’d have to move Steph back a solid ten spots also since he’d only have two chips and wasn’t the best player on those teams with KD. KD is ahead of Steph, Jokic, and Giannis. Jokic on his current path passes him, but not today.

Compare the teammates they had when they won it all. Curry won a championship before and after Durant. Having Durant ahead of Curry is crazy.

I think fans haven't given him his proper respect for being a super hard worker and respecting the game because of all the other stuff.

I don’t think it’s silly to leave him out of the top 15. People have been posting his resume, but everyone in the top 20 has a stacked resume. I think a list like this is reasonable:

1. Jordan
2. Lebron
3. Kareem
4. Russell
5. Wilt
6. Magic
7. Bird
8. Duncan
9. Hakeem
10. Kobe
11. Shaq
12. Curry
13. Moses Malone
14. Dr. J
15. Jokic
16. Giannis
17. Oscar Robertson
18. Jerry West
19. Dirk
20. KG
21. Durant

Now Durant certainly has an argument over KG, Dirk, West, and Oscar, but it’s debatable.

Well, he can't be over Steph and he can't be over the people over Steph, so that pretty much puts him around there.

My thing is, everybody wants to discount Durant's 2 FMVPs because he joined the Warriors. Well, plenty of those names you have above him had stacked teams like, say, Dr J. If you think a free agent signing is "less honorable" than just happening to play with stacked teams like the 83 Sixers or 86 Celtics etc, fine.

Giannis had a great peak but ha a lot of rough spots in his game. I question how well he'd do versus other really elite athletes like Wilt or Hakeem, there's a lot of ways to neutralize what he does if he doesn't have the overwhelming athletic advantage. Shaq is similar but Shaq was another level of physical specimen.

Offhand I'd move Dr J out of the top 15, and Durant in. Oscar, West, Dirk, KG, all great players. I don't think just as players any of them give you what peak Durant does which is a top 5ish all time scorer skill wise AND elite defense.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

At 19 years old, he was drafted by Seattle, purchased property there, and was forced to move to OKC. At the time, OKC was meh. Still is from a living perspective for most.

Golden State gave him a sense of how a team should be run with quality teammates. Unlike Harden hitting up the clubs all the time and leaving OKC to do it.

He was a machine during the Finals runs. He deserves credit for what he did for Golden State.

KD is criticized for the one right thing he's done in the league to be selfish to succeed. Golden State needed him just as much. He was the final piece.

OKC is a meh destination, compared to Seattle. With Harden, they should've forced their way to keep him, that would have netted them a title or two.

He performed well in GS, yes, and he even outplayed Curry. He routinely did things like that, that's why I rate him so high.

You can do whatever the hell you want to win, and he pulled off one of those. The media criticized him (and LeBron) for that... it breaks the league and ruins competition.

Dr. J also won 2 ABA titles. Bird won with the 81 Celtics who weren’t nearly as stacked as the 86 team. The 79 Celtics won 29 games. People also discount Durant’s Finals
MVPs because they believe Curry was better.

The 09 Celtics were 44-11 with KG and then almost lost in the first round without him. They lost in the 2nd without him.

Do the 2011 Mavs even make the playoffs without Dirk? Do the 2021 Bucks?

If KD is top 5 offensive player of all time, why didn’t he play better in the playoffs in 2014, 2016, or 2022?

Having KD as 15th all time is reasonable. So is having him 21st.

I think you can't go wrong with the names we've mentioned, if you want to say Dirk is better than Durant that's your call. I have a real problem with a guy like Giannis who is lower skill than the rest and just an athletic beast who lacks some skills. Yes at his absolute peak Giannis was tough to handle and blew DeAndre Ayton off the floor in the finals. I just score guys with elite skill a little higher all things equal. Durant gives you skill AND athleticism.

KG couldn't be your #1 scorer. I get how great he was but Durant faced up and battled still prime LeBron pretty damn well. I don't think KG was ever the playmaker like that.

Shaq is similar but Shaq was another level of physical specimen.

Offhand I'd move Dr J out of the top 15, and Durant in. Oscar, West, Dirk, KG, all great players. I don't think just as players any of them give you what peak Durant does which is a top 5ish all time scorer skill wise AND elite defense.

thing is, seemingly every other all-time great above him was so good that they instantly transformed their teams into contenders. MJ immediately made the playoffs with arguably the worst roster in the NBA. Bird's Celtics won 32 more games and got to the 2nd round of the playoffs his rookie season and he made all-NBA. Magic won FMVP as a rookie. Shaq improved the Magic by 20 wins. Lebron improved the Cavs by 18 games and was top 10 in MVP votes. It goes on and on.

But you know what KD's impact was? The Sonics won 11 LESS games. Then they added Westbrook and won a whopping 3 more games to get to 23 wins. Finally, after adding their third future Hall of Famer, they improved and made the playoffs. And from that moment on he's been on either super teams or teams thought to be super teams, if we're being honest.

KD never gave "elite" defense. It was close for a couple of seasons before the injury though. Oscar and West gave MORE than Durant. They were not only the scorer he was but West actually an elite defender and was a playmaker that led the league in assists once while Oscar did it 7 times and even averaged a triple double one season. Dr. J was THE best player in the ABA and then the NBA when he joined the league. Again, actually an elite defender, unlike KD. There have only been maybe a dozen "faces of the league" in NBA history and Dr. J is one of them (Wilt, Russell, West, Dr. J, Kareem, Magic, Bird, MJ, Kobe, Lebron, Steph)

West, Oscar, and Dr. J are the most disrespected players in NBA history if you have guys trying to put Durant over them

See, I don’t heavily penalise the rings because he was also the FMVP those years.

The media loved Curry and could’ve very easily given KD the Lebron 2011 treatment and “punished” him by voting for Curry, but he came out took control in those finals.

only leaders get the early invites. kd has to wait his turn. 20 or late teens sounds right.

I can think of 15 or 16 before I have to think about kd

One of the greatest scorers ever, probably because of shooting and height, but not sure where to put him overall. Is he a better shooter than Steph? That GSW team won both before he joined, as well as after he left them - which leads me to believe he was not the reason they won, but Steph. Outside of that, he only has one Finals trip and one MVP to show for.

Pipen has more championships and was a way better defender than KD. Arguably, more impactful and complete player. Is KD better player than Barkley was in his era? Wouldn't put my money on it. Pair Barkley with Jordan and Pipen and he easily has more titles. Why would we value KD more?

Top 20 is a safe bet based on scoring prowess and longevity alone. If his rings were legitimate he could of easily had a shot at the top 10
