Re: Most impressive title run by a player...?
Duncan and Hakeem had a run that should be mentioned.
But it’s still dirk 2011 given the competition and hype
Though looking at currys run vs joker Luka morant and the jays, the 2022 ring is up there.
Previous all stars green was better benched in the finals ,
And klay was just as bad. Wiggins and Poole were their 2nd and 3rd best players lol. Curry cut up the Celtics D.
they beat the nuggets grizzlies, mavs and celtics. Grizzlies were rolling and now they’re back rolling to a top seed. Nuggets with all timer Jokic won the title the next season. the finals last season had mavs and Celtics, with the latter elite Celtics team winning it all. Legit teams and superstars.

Wtf is this list? No Duncan from 03, no Hakeem, no Jordan from 98, and… wait, are you **** me? You really put Kawhi from 2019 on there?
What a thread.
Oh and btw, going by your criteria, none of these players should be on this list. All of them had significant help, including Dirk.

Re: Most impressive title run by a player...?
03 Duncan definitely deserves a mention and was extremely dominant, as others have said.
My only argument against his run vs 11 Dirk is the level of competition. Duncan’s 2 way impact definitely is a huge advantage for him
- 03 Suns were a weak team. Just not there in terms of fit and talent with rookie Amare. They still pushed the Spurs to 6, and it was a relatively close 6.
-beating 03 Lakers coming off a 3 peat is obviously an impressive accomplishment. Lakers definitely seemed tired and were showing signs of being disfunctional that year, and they still came one Robert Horry shot away from being up in game 5 with 3 seconds left, series tied 2-2, and with game 6 in LA
-The 03 Mavs were a great team, but Dirk missed the last 3 games of that series
-TD was incredible against the Nets, but I think we could all agree that the Nets were a mediocre opponent for the finals
Meanwhile, Dirk dismantled the Lakers in 11 who were again coming off multiple championships. He did the same to a healthy, albeit inexperience Thunder team in the next round, a team that made the finals the next year.
And while he struggled against the Heat in the finals he was clearly the most important player against one of the most talented teams of all time, while being incredibly clutch.
It’s obviously a team game and like I said, Duncan has a great argument against Dirk due to this 2 way dominance. I just personally think what Dirk did was more impressive due to the quality of the teams the Mavs beat that year.

Re: Most impressive title run by a player...?
I dunno 95 Hakeem beat 3 59/59+ road teams, which hasn't been done or since.... Road Teams. Faced elimination multiple times. He even upped his scoring load which he upped obviously from RS to PS in 94. So he didn't just rise once he rose again on top. And the Rockets needed every bit of it. Heck even in the Spurs series which was their worst offensive outing overall for a team (109 av)... Hakeem went apesh*t.
Also needed all of 22 games which a team didn't get to until 08 Celtics which were historically dominant in the RS not the 95 Rockets
The poster said title runs which means the whole run. I'm serious when I say Hakeem has a credible shot of taking both the number 1# and number 2# spot of title runs all time.

Re: Most impressive title run by a player...?
Olajuwon in 1994 was pretty nasty. His supporting cast was weaker than Jokic's title team for sure. None of his teammates were even sniffing All-Star territory.
If it were just the Finals, then Lebron in 2016. That team had no business beating a 73 win team, especially down 1-3.

To me the injuries for the Warriors weaken Leonard's argument, but individually, he was amazing.bubonicphoniks wrote:I dont think anyone ever had little help.

Wait how is 2019 Raptors support comparable to 94 Rockets for that matter let alone the difficulty of the run. Kawhi's run definitely isn't more impressive than a Jordan/Bron run.
You do know the Warriors were injured and the Sixers was actually ahead on starting 5 even after Leonard's amazing game 1. Fukn Serge Ibaka man

Can i vote for 3?
2011 Dirk, 2019 Kawhi, 2022 Curry are all super-awesome.

It's Dirk, swept the defending champs, fend off the surging young team (that makes the finals next year) and closes with slaying the 3 headed monster and the franchise that denied him his 1st finals...
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Calling the 2020 Lakers a super team is hilarious. Their third best player was KCP

Its about one player who stood head and shoulders above his team. In 2020, you'll find enough people who argue AD was the best player in the playoffs (not finals). Thats not the case for anyone else mentioned in the list. Thats why it doesnt belong in this imho.

I was just answering the OP. To me it was very impressive a guy on a new team. A team which has never won a title. They had a good roster but not favored to win probably any of those series. (Idk)
So for me it was one of my answers. You don't have to agree.

I didn't say it belonged, it's just silly to call it a superteam. They had two great players and then defensive role players.

100% Dirk. What also somehow barely gets mentioned is that Caron Butler, arguably the 2nd best player on that roster missed 50 regular season games and the complete playoffs.
