Seems to me the Lakers want to see how the Luka/Lebron duo works. They're not trading Lebron for anybody whose not a star.

That said, Lebron to Cleveland for Garland does make sense for both. Garland is probably one of the best players the Lakers can get for Lebron. And maybe Cleveland isn't convinced the Garland/Mitchell backcourt wins big in the postseason. If the Lakers add a shooter with Lebron (Knecht), I could see the Cavs making the trade.

Garland has really been a good player this year. It's a big gamble trading him + filler for LeBron. It could go either way. I can see a scenario where it completes to team. Can LeBron really play SF at this point though?

What could Lebron even get in a trade package?

I would probably stop watching the Cavs if they traded any one of the big four for LeBron.

How the hell does that make sense for Cleveland

Long term, it doesn't really. I believe Mitchell's extension fully kicks in at the beginning of the '27 season in which case Lebron will either be retired or content to take less money to coast for more rings though.

Short term, Lebron is just simply at better player than Garland even at 40.

Who knows though, I still don't think Lebron would want to go there even with the Luka trade.

If I'm the lakers, I try to get Lebron to mentor Luka in terms of body maintenance (workouts/diet etc). I think that's more important to the future of the lakers than trading lebron.

LeBron has a No Trade Clause

Meaning he has control over where he goes and who goes. He's never been traded and never will. He's not going to demand a trade and weaken the team he's traded to.

Most likely he plays out this year and determines his future in the off-season. He will see how he fits with Luka and go from there.

LeBron will mentor Luka

That’s the point
Lakers are trying to set up to win titles in the near 3-4 years

Young stars are looking for immediate results
Stop being so disrespectful.

Cleveland or PHX or OKC or Knicks would also be fun.

Luka and Lebron are the two biggest names in the NBA, but on paper its just a bad combination and the age gap doesn't make sense.

LAL get one or two young players to team up with Luka like Evan Mobley or Kel Ware.

Lebron get to team up with Wemby or Garland for one more season before calling it quits.
Lol, the Spurs do not want LeBron
