These threads are so entertaining. People complain about GMs and coaches everyday, criticizing them for a lack of common sense and being clueless and what not. Then, when a GM makes said move with a lack of common sense, all of a sudden it’s a conspiracy and we’re bringing out our tinfoil hats.
Pick a side man.

If there was a shadowy conspiracy behind the NBA, why didn't they try to make the Knicks contenders or at the very least competent?
The San Antonio Spurs play in one of the NBA's smallest markets. They landed 3 # 1 picks, all years in which a top miss HOF prospect existed. If there really is a shadowy conspiracy behind the NBA, why do they keep handing elite players to a team with no national fan appeal?
That's all part of the plan. The man has to sprinkle in some "irregularities" per say to keep people thinking it's real, ya know? The Knicks were a necessary sacrifice to ensure the Lakers, Celtics, Warriors and other key markets stay on top. It would be too suspicious if the Knicks were that great too.

Corrupt as in GM's being friends and scratching each other's backs? I'd agree with that. As a GM it's good to build those relationships, but as fans it can suck.

LeBron? Rose? Ewing? AD? Plenty of examples where things lined up perfectly for the leagues interests in the draft

They didn’t say everything, they specifically said the League and the Lakers being gifted, again.

Re: Let’s stop pretending the league isn’t corrupt
If the league wasn't corrupt how do you explain it being 40 years since the Knicks had the 1st overall pick? No way a team who has been bad for as much of that time as we have, doesn't land the 1 pick even once, unless the league was rigged to artificially make small market teams more financially viable. Why else would they have put Giannis, Jokic, and Wemby in such backwaters?
If you're a fan of a big market team, just be ready to be screwed by the league, any chance they get.

Sure, if someone is being told to lose on purpose, I'd consider that corrupt.
The article the OP posted isn't evidence of corruption though. It's two guys, who are friends, working out a deal over coffee. It's something that happens all the time. If the article had exposed some insider knowledge of a league official insisting Dallas make this trade or Nico saying, "I'm doing this to make the Mavs worse," that would be corrupt. As is though? No, this is just the worst trade in a history that includes many really bad trades.

How about a fighter dropped and got counted out in an unbelievable manner? Wouldn't that naturally arouse suspicion?
An article doesn't have to have evidence for people to look at the situation sideways. The fact itself and the circumstances surrounding it are extraordinary and beggar belief.

The obvious parties are implied in the "everything" strictly for the purpose and nature of the thread. FFS. Are you really going to nitpick at pure semantics in an asinine thread?RB34 wrote:SkyBill40 wrote:Let's stop thinking there's some conspiracy behind absolutely everything, shall we?

Lakers fans have been saying Pelinka is the worst GM ever for the last 4-5 years. Now he pulls off the biggest heist in NBA history and we’re supposed to believe there was nothing suspicious about this trade?

Everything’s a conspiracy.
How many threads do we need on this. If you have a wack job rant, just put in the trade thread.

The GM made a rigged trade not a bad trade. There is a big difference. Bad trades have good intentions but didn't work out like Murray to the Pels. Rigged trades are like the Luka deal, where no one was allowed to bid on Luka and then took a substandard return for the 25 year old superstar.

From DWade: “First of all, I said to myself, before all the reports come out I said, no players were involved in this decision; this is billionaires' business,” Wade said. “This was at the top; the last 12 to 15 years, the players have decided what we want to do. This was the owners, the governors, the billionaires deciding what they want to do."

You can just tell that this is what it's about with these threads. You just have to look at who the OPs are and it's a dead giveaway.

Lets stop pretending everyone is a standup person and there is never anything nefarious going on, shall we?
I don’t think this is the issue. The issue is level headed humans see every piece of news with a loud group of people telling them to “open your eyes, it’s a conspiracy”. It kind of discredits the actual corruption that may be true.
It’s basically the boy who cried wolf. The more conspiracy talk I see, the less likely I am to believe it when it actually does happen
And if half the welfare the Lakers have gotten went to the Celtics or GSW you Lakers fans would be crying at home over it. The only reason you don't see anything wrong it's b/c your team keeps benefiting.
