I hope this is a trend. Get these scumbag agents out of here.

NBA agents don't just work on the team contracts. They arrange sponsorships and can work with teams to get their clients in the situations they want. There is a reason Rich Paul is one of the most powerful men in the NBA.

he’s 29. So basically 29-34 on a supermax.
Does that make sense? Will SGA be worth a supermax at that age?
Easily, barring injury. That includes some of his prime years and as long as he takes care of himself, he should still be playing close to peak performance at 34.
yea it's clear players are playing longer than ever before. Gone are the days when players were over the hill at 30.

Tell that to Joel Embiid, Clint Capela, Steven Adams, Tobias Harris, Bradley Beal, CJ McCollum, etc. Some players are lasting well past 30, but tons of players are clearly out of their primes by their early 30s.
Now Shai's game in particular should age great as long as he doesn't get killed by injuries, and the average has moved because there has been some across-the-board improvement as well as the outliers, but not every star will suddenly keep going like LeBron & KD.
Doesn't mean guys become useless when they hit 30...though Capela pretty much is...but a lot of guys will no longer be in their primes after a ~decade in the league.

Shai doesn't need an agent for his NBA contract. He's getting maxed for sure. He needs a better agent for his endorsement and commercial deals though. Guy is about the lowest profile MVP candidate I can remember.

True but SGA is getting the supermax agent or no agent so saves himself 4% of that salary.

I guess that's what people are missing in this. Agents are paid to let you do all these burocratic work in your place.
Of course he can do all that by himself, but he will lose a lot of his free time that he could use for his leisure.

Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

If SGA is interested, I would do it for 0.5% of that contract.

Yes, they're great for non-max players. When you're a top 3 player in the NBA though there's not much negotiation that needs to happen. But I guess an agent could still be helpful for endorsement deals.

mademan wrote:ya if youre an auto max/supermax guy, giving 4% to someone to do nothing there is pretty ridiculous. Just hire a couple lawyers to read the contract for a fraction of a fraction of that 4%
I understand this sentiment, and I agree to an extent. A good attorney could look through the deal and make sure Shai isn't getting screwed, but most agents are attorneys or at least graduated law school. What he's going to make on his extension might be a foregone conclusion, but he needs someone who knows the in and outs of the CBA to ensure that he gets everything in his new contract he's supposed to. That's not something any attorney, even a good one, can necessarily do.

It's crazy to see this and also realize Quickley is making a couple milli less than SGA right now.

Doesn't really matter right now as long as SGA is happy in OKC, but an agent will be better tapped into the league and know if OKC is considering moving Shai / what other teams would be ready to make a move for him if things start to go south in that thunder locker-room or between SGA & the organization.

Yes, you're right. Rich Paul is in place for high leverage situations like players wanting to be traded. SGA is obviously very happy in OKC.
SGA & I think the same way. No point in hiring a realtor or a financial advisor or any of these non value jobs that just get commission because that's the way it's always been done.

As much as I'd like SGA to come home, he'd be a fool to pass up on $350M+ not to mention he's playing for the best GM in the league who's got assets galore to keep making moves that'll lead to a title window. The Raptors under Ed Rogers(current majority owner of MLSE that runs the Raptors, Leafs and other teams) is an absolute clown. He's the guy itching to get Masai gone and isn't exactly smart.
He has the best of both worlds in OKC.

I think so, unless he has a major injury his game should age well + the cap going up this wont be as hefty as it appears today

Rob Pelinka will represent him with zero fees. He used to be an agent and is a good guy, I would give him a call.

If you're a superstar basically guaranteed supermax money you don't need an agent
