Jokic had the MVP for one day.

Damn.

Can't get beat at home this bad on national TV.

Did Jokic play defense tonight?

If SGA had this game this thread would be ablaze with the “Jokic is so clearly the best player in the world, yall are idiots” takes

It’s humorous how quickly we went from multiple Giannis Stans yelling at me basically “Are you stupid? Giannis is much better than SGA” to… Jokic and SGA creating pretty untouchable separation from the Giannis/Luka/Tatum tier for MVP this season. SGA is in the drivers seat, but IMO the more logical way to do this would have been SGA wins last year after a monster leap individually and team wise, and Jokic wins this year. But because SGA didn’t get it, and OKC is so much better record wise.. it won’t shake out that way.
“This kid reminds me of a 6-6 Chris Paul. He wants to win everything.”

I think saying who is the better player and who is the mvp are different topics.

You're right that the Giannis talk of mvp is gone. And Giannis being "much" better than SGA talks aren't there anymore.

This is SGA mvp to lose imo. He has been so consistent and his impact has been great. It doesn't matter who is out of the lineup for OKC, they still win. It shows the team construction and how deep the team is.

SGA had more free throws than the entire Boston team, he was outplayed by Tatum, Celtics missed their starting center, Thunder were +23 in FTA, and 2 celtic starters were in foul trouble in the 4th

This was no statement
You okay? Last time okc and SGA slapped the Celtics you kinda malfunctioned? Consider this a wellness check.

SGA has to be MVP. I do think Jokic is having a historical season and is still clearly the best player in the world. But at a certain point, you can't ignore the Thunder's record. SGA is also having a historical season in his own merit. He's also dominated and gotten wins against the best teams in the NBA while the Nuggets have been getting cooked by those same teams.

I think Giannis is having an amazing year - his efficiency is off the charts but this ain’t his year based on SGAs winning and having amazing stats -

In fact I voted jokic but I’m cool with it being sga -

Sga is clearly the 3rd best player on earth playing the best ball on earth consistently while winning the most when compared to the 4 other greats in the game today-

Based on how the mvp is judged sga is 1, jokic 2, Giannis 3, Tatum 4, Luka if he qualified would be 5th and LeBron would or will be 6th - LeBron will end up 5th with Luka being out -

Best player is jokic then giannis then sga and then it’s Tatum or Luka - your pick - if you believe Luka injured you got Luka 4th if you think this is the new normal for Luka you gotta have Tatum 4th - and Luka 5th

Better get the mvp this year sga cause it’s wembys next year

BUT SGA has improved every year - if he gets the MVP he could be really ready to be the best player on earth going forward- if he wins the ring and the mvp I think it’s a wrap- he will be the face of basketball period

This could be the beginning of the new era where the best player on earth is a wing again lol

My issue is there are some calls that he gets that LeBron and Jokic don't get.

Imo, it's not a neg on SGA. He's smart. It doesn't make me upset like how Harden and Embiid does when they foul bait. And SGA don't need FTs. He's good without it.

I would think the reason why LeBron/Jokic don't get those is because they are bigger. But Embiid is big and he knows how to get the refs to call. Giannis is like Shaq, so players would intentionally try to foul him.

Jokic was a team worst -24 tonight, but it’s all his teammates fault right?

OKC is about to wrap up the 1st seed real soon, it'll be done before April I'd assume.

This award will come down to how careful OKC approaches the Shai situation. If the Thunder go for the cautious approach I can still see a Jokic win even if the current odds are lopsided towards SGA.

Nuggets have a lot of work to do still to clinch HCA for the first round of the playoffs. Jokic won't have the luxury to sit games, and he'll still have monster games while SGA sits, which can swing the vote pretty quickly.

This is kinda what happened when Jokic rested(he played only 2 games of their final 7), while Embiid pushed all out in 2023(he had a 52 point game against the Celtics while Jokic was resting), wouldn't be surprised to see a repeat of that.

Jokic rolled into Boston just a week ago, got held to 20 points and took a L.

SGA beats the world champions on their homecourt without his running mate (you know you Jokic fans love to cry about the importance of the co-star) scores 34, takes over the game late with offense and defense and comes out with a W.

Its for damn sure a statement. Also on the same night Jokic gets destroyed by the Wolves, the same team he choked away a 20 point game 7 lead away on his homecourt just last year.

Also you are really crying about free tbrow disparity in a game where one team decided to take 63! 3 point attempts and not attack the rim.

That's a very remote possiblity but the nuggets would have to get their **** together and actually start winning games. putting up offensive stats in losses while you're getting blown out on defense doesn't exactly scream VALUE

Imagine the delusional level of haterdom to watch the Wolves game last night and believe Jokic was the worst player on the court.

In this particular game, Jokic was great (tough to measure game level performance but +5.1 EPM prior is great) and it was his teammates who let him down yeah

This is what people tend to say when Jokic’s box score stats are great, but people want to pretend that Jokic was secretly bad so they make an unfalsifiable statement that Jokic’s defense was bad to according to their “eye test”. That’s not to say that Jokic doesn’t have bad defensive games (the Nuggets 2nd game against the TWolves was quite bad), but that’s the general pattern I’ve seen
