I honestly feel like Embiid needs to be the number 2 as well. That's not shade against him, I think I'm today's game you are just FAR better off having a guard or wing be your number 1 option. I honestly think that's why Embiid hasn't made a conference finals, he needs to be the 2nd guy. It's more a statement about how the game is officiated than about he skill of these bigs.

The NBA rewards smaller players. It's a guards game and they can impact the game more. Prime example is how teams get away with putting small guys on bigs to stop them. In the 90's you could run that small guys ass over and kill them with physicality. Today they protect the small so much that you have to use pure skill to score over them if you are bigger because using your size to murder them is a foul. Smalls get a lot more leeway to be physical.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.
