The voters will definitely want any reason to crown a new MVP. If the spurs are a top 6 seed, Wemby is winning MVP and DPOY

If they qualify games-wise and their teams get ~55 wins, Jokic and SGA are in a 2-man race.

If the Lakers, Golden St or the Clippers get HCA, Luka, Steph, and Kawhi should get votes. I expect Houston and Cleveland to do well, but Sengun/Durant and Mobley/Mitchell probably cancel each other out.

I don't think San Antonio, Minnesota, Detroit, or Milwaukee will do well enough for their stars to get serious consideration for MVP.

1. Jokic
2. SGA
3. Luka
4. Mitchell
5. Sengun
6. Brunson
7. Giannis
8. Wemby
9. Cade

Jokic is the safe bet. SGA also has a chance again if the Thunder win around 65 games & the rest of the MVP candidates are under 55 wins. Bucks & Lakers likely won't be that good so odds are against Luka & Giannis since team record means a lot nowadays for MVP.

The media will try to make Luka the MVP.

I think Jokic takes a stepback statistically this season (in raw numbers), with more depth and a reliable backup, even though I still think his advanced impact metrics will be tops in the league. I think Luka or Wemby end up taking it if they end up top 4 with crazy raw numbers

SGA. I think OKC will continue to be the best team in the league and likely win another ring.
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

Durant has played 75 and 62 games the last 2 seasons, so he's got a chance at playing enough games to win MVP.
And he'll get A LOT of freedom in Houston's offense, so he'll probably score even more than usual...
Plus he'll get to rest himself on defense, because Houston are such athletic defenders, the opposite of Phoenix!

Huh, and yet he already averaged 18.5 a game and shot 37% on 3s last season. Watch and learn son. Watch and learn.

You really thought 18.5 ppg is anywhere close to competing for MVP?

He would need to add at least another ~10 ppg, please show me any player who had a similar increase in their stats?

Mobley’s assists are way too low for him to qualify with low ppg

Look at past winners: Jokic 27 ppg and 8 apg in 2022, Jokic 26 ppg and 8 apg in 2021. Giannis 29 ppg and 6 apg in 2020, Giannis 28 ppg and 6 apg in 2019

Mobley was 18.5 and 3apg…. You’re talking about a gigantic increase in offensive production to sniff MVP

Is 10th in MVP voting “sniffing” because that’s literally what he was last season. As I said, watch and learn son. Watch and learn.

A grand total of 1x 5th place vote is “sniffing” is it?

Sure then he’s a real dark horse

Going to be a fun race. SGA has the crown, Jokic could win it every year, Giannis might see a boost in stats based on a new style of play, any improvement from Victor will have in talks, Luka looks fit, Hell Zion could surprise us

Catchall wrote:Giannis' unstable situation with the Bucks probably takes him out of the MVP discussion, but I think he's more of a top-5 guy right now.

He's basically been a Top 3-4 for the last seven years and really hasnt taken a step back (some parts of his game got worse, others gotten better). Don't really see what has changed expect the names - embiid dropping and SGA rising, etc. If healthy, we will be around the same spot and i actually see his unstable situation working to his advantage. The Bucks underachieved the last couple years, but are put in the 42-win/6th seed projection bucket. Replacing Lopez with Turner and replacing Dame' with guys who will defer to Giannis and possibly play some D could refresh Giannis. If he leads them to a 50+ win season, there will be a lot of MVP talk......or he could be traded by February :)

Everyone remembers the James Harden 2024-25 MVP push as well (T-10th) :D

zero rings wrote:The SGA disrespect is actually wild, and I’m a Jokic fan. OKC is going to win 65+ games again and Shai will average his usual 32/5/6 on amazing efficiency.

MVP is basically a stats + wins awards, and nobody is going to have a better combination of stats + wins than him. If the Nuggets have a great year and win close to 60, maybe Jokic can take it.

Giannis, Luka, and Wemby are fighting for 3rd place barring injury. I don’t see any of those teams being good enough.

They are not winning 65 games. They will 60. They are the target.
