JDR720 wrote:Baseball, even with some teams spending way more than others, still has a lot more variability than the NBA does. Cal Raleigh for example came out of totally nowhere and led the league in homeruns. That sort of thing never happens in the NBA, where a formerly obscure player turns into a star overnight. So "superteams" in baseball just don't have the same anti-parity impact as superteams in the NBA do.

I think you're right about the MLB being less stackable/buyable than the NBA but this is not a good example of why. Raleigh's been a pretty big star for a few years now, he took a big leap this year but nothing bigger than many stars in the NBA do when they jump from like AS to MVP-candidate level. Also Raleigh looks old but he's only in his 5th pro season so a leap to that level isn't that weird (esp in baseball). Also him being that good didn't singlehandedly take the Mariners to contention, lotta other good players on that squad.

Because I don’t watch the Dodgers and I rather have more balanced teams than one that is better than everyone else.

Dodgers were preseason favorites at +300 (bet $100, win $300) which does suggest they were stacked. The Celtics were also preseason favorites at +300 for the '24-'25 season. The Nuggets were +450 preseason favorites in the season prior to that, for additional context.

However, the KD Warriors were -150 preseason favorites (bet $100, win $67) and the MJ Bulls were preseason also preseason favorites at -125 after their 72 win season. When betting against the field has a lower payout, you know a team is way too stacked.

So you like watching teams play against inferior competition? I mean, if one team is overwhelmingly better than their opponent, what is the point in even watching? You know the outcome already.

This is the only reason I don't like the baseball model. The Dodgers have like a 500 million dollar payroll. Whoopdie damn doo.

You can never take a championship for granted when it's only happened one time in 165 combined years of Cleveland sports team and in baseball upsets happen pretty frequently in the playoffs as pitchers and hitters seem to randomly go hot or cold.

The problem with the Dodgers (and the Yankees before them) isn't that they can't be beat, it's that they are advantaged because of their money in ways that other teams can never match let alone sustain. It's fun to an extent to watch them fail when they bungle things, but it's just a panacea. The sooner baseball fans stop supporting that garbage the better.

It was a flukey series, Dodgers were bailed out numerous times. Could easily have lost, it was not domination by any means.

You know you can go onto a website and look at a team's salary rather than make things up.

To be fair, haven’t watched much of the Dodgers and baseball can’t really keep my attention. Having one team use everyone else as a farm team and buy up all the talent isn’t what I want to see if that’s the question.

The Blue Jays were bailed out many times by the Dodgers bats. Series could've been over in 5 if the bats actually showed up.

completely disagree. 2017 and 2018 I basically checked out of the NBA because of the Warriors. I LOVED 2016, but as soon as KD signed it was so obvious what was gonna happen.

I know this is semantics but if a team is organically grown and the front office makes savvy moves and the team becomes dominant (Duncan Spurs, pre KD warriors etc) I like having those type of powerhouse teams in the NBA.

When top 5 players force their way to play with each other or even through trades, I find this much less interesting. It feels like either players teaming up rather than trying to win off their own merit or a front office buying a championship.

Jays overall outplayed the Dodgers. Schneider made some bad decisions (imo) and Dodgers stepped up when it mattered most.

I'm still heartbroken from last night but I have to tip my hat to the Dodgers because their defense actually came through last night and Yamamoto is a beast.
