Seems like a role player, not a 1st, 2nd or 3rd option. I guess if he can be a super role player like Caruso then it's worth it.

EPM ranking from last season

51 Christian Braun (O +1.6; D +0.7)
78 Dayson Daniels (O -0.9; D +2.4)
251 Grayson Allen (O +0.3; D -1.2)

Advanced stats are not everything but may point to right direction

Those are impact stats I believe. They use plus-minus heavily. Advanced stats typically use box score numbers heavily, like PER or TS%.

Yeah that is promising, that is super role player potential.

He gets a very efficient 15 points per game, shoots the three well, and is a decent defender.

I've got that as a solid starter. I don't think a majority of teams have 5 players better than that, which is how I would define a "fringe" starter.

He’s benefitting from playing next to Jokic and being the third or forth option. He’s a high-energy 3D wing. I don’t think he’s a better player than guys like KCP, Herb Jones…I’m even wondering about Fontecchio.

Yeah he had an impressive season for sure.

I wouldn't compare him to existing deals. More compare him to guys signed this season. These deals are based on new CBA rules.

Better to comp to Dyson Daniels (4/100), NAW (4/62), Merrill (4/38), Jerome (3/28), PJ (4/90), Herb Jones (3/68), Mikal (4/150), Caruso (4/81)

These were the 2-way wings signed this offseason. Of these players only Mikal Bridges was paid more.

In 2023-24 season, playing with Jokic in the same role, KCP averaged

10.1 ppg on 46.0%/40.6%/89.4% and 60.2% TS

Jokic can help any player be better, but he can't make Braun out of KCP. Braun is super role player, one of the best in the league

SGA just got 277 million for 5 and obviously there's a cap for the top guys so they can't get paid their true value. That seems like a big enough difference to me.

Or put another way. 25 million a year says he's about the 100th best player in the league.

i mean when joker is in your starting lineup, braun and his good defense efficient shooting is more than good enough to start

So you can name 90 or so better guys not on rookie contracts? Cause that's about where he ranks in pay for next year with this deal. 25 million a year is squarely in the 100-125th best player in the league zone.

Didn't Dyson Daniels sign a 4 year 100 million deal? So the exact same annual salary?

And what would a Caruso get if he was 24 and coming off his last year? 40 million a year (and without injury issues)?

Those are impact stats I believe. They use plus-minus heavily. Advanced stats typically use box score numbers heavily, like PER or TS%.

Yeah that is promising, that is super role player potential.

How are "impact" stats not just modern advanced stats? VORP/BPM is just a box metric that tries to correlate with RAPM for example.

Neither VORP or BPM use plus-minus.

As a tip, plus-minus came out in 97. Any stats that can be calculated before 97 are advanced stats and don't at all involve plus-minus.

He's already shown he can be a key contributor to a championship team. That alone is worth $25 million.

Plus the dollar is down 10 percent this year so that's like 22.5 anyway.

Good for him.

But is he good enough to start for a real championship contending team?

But i was told he was just another trash teammate of Jokics’ and he wasn’t on the level of KCP from their championship team despite his numbers being better across the board and being way younger.

Just because basketball reference doesn't have modern advanced stats doesn't mean the more advanced stats we have today aren't "advanced stats".

edit

Just in case we're using different definitions. This is the wiki on advanced basketball stats.

Just want to also point out that Nuggets decided to let KCP walk so they can at least keep one of Braun and Watson.

KCP is making $21M this upcoming season
