It was the only time when people who have never watched a basketball game in their entire lives texted me about basketball.

So what do you guys think, was Nico paid up Jeanie?

The other one as others have said was Kobe's death, people at work told me, didn't want to to believe it, heard on the radio on the way home, still didn't want believe it, turned on Realgm then it hit me 100+ pages on it :(

Yeah I think it's gotta be Kobe's death #1 for me

#2 would be watching the pre-game live between OKC and my Jazz in 2020. Getting ready to watch a big playoff matchup and you could feel the COVID situation starting to bubble up, especially in the US, but obviously hadn't smacked us here yet. Within those 10-15 minutes it was players and fans ready to go, a little wait, coaches talking, refs talking, refs leave the court, and players back to the locker rooms. In those 15 minutes it went from this COVID thing could turn into kind of a deal to holy **** it's here and we have a big problem.

Covid did not happen during the playoffs, it was in March. NBA playoffs don't start until April.

When a RealGM'er broke a developing story before Woj or any Media.

Forgot his username, but he claimed that Jason Kidd was pulling a power play in Brooklyn, and RealGM laughed at him, and then it was later reported to be true. Kidd tried a failed powermove in Brooklyn and was ousted. Whats also weird is that Milwaukee saw that and immediately took him in.

In a negative way it was Hinkie getting canned

i had my blood pressure tested at the docs that day and it was through the roof lol

In a positive way it was seeing steph, kd, and embiid all balling out in person in the same game. KD is ridiculous to watch in person

Alex English coming to my house and playing basketball with me in our driveway as a kid. My grandmother used to coach and mentor him when he was a kid. We also went to a premier screening with him of his movie Amazing Grace and Chuck.

There are only two things I can remember as being "unreal" - both seemed like I was dreaming, needed to pinch myself, wondered if I was hallucinating.

The Malice at the Palace was one. I hadn't watched the game; had pulled an all-nighter the night before to study for an exam, and ended up taking a long nap in the afternoon/evening. Went over to my buddy's apartment to hang out later that night, the usual crew were gonna be there. When I arrive, one of my friends greets me at the door with "CAN YOU BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED" and I'm like "uhhhh... what happened?" And he tells me the whole story and I'm flabbergasted. I remember standing on that front landing just hearing his version and flipping out, and then going inside and watching replays on ESPN the whole night.

The Luka trade is the other. Saw it just scrolling twitter on a Saturday night before going to bed. Thought it was a fake Shams account. Then checked it was the real account, figured it was hacked. Then found out it was real? But how could it be real?

3. Seeing MJ hit the shot over Ehlo in person. I honestly thought there was no way in hell he got it off in time. Going into that series we were hugely favored and went up 2-0.
4. Magic's retirement. That happened really quick too. It's like one minute he has hiv and the next moment he's retired.
5. Luka trade. Just because it was so weird and seemed to come out of nowhere.

Magic's retirement is a top one, for sure.

Definitely one of the "do you remember where you were when..." moments of my life.

Me too. He was and is my favorite player. I was at a Thrifty after my mom picked me up from school for some last second shopping. I hear what sounds like Magic Johnson (not too clear) on the PA system that usually plays slow tunes. I was thinking "was that Magic? Why would they broadcast it over the radio?" When I got home and turned on the TV, I was shocked. All I could think was the rematch with the Bulls in 1992 and that just fizzled away immediately.
