Iggyemu wrote:(Please Use More Appropriate Word) post considering he said this over a year ago. And on top of that McGrady has said he would be at allstar weekend if he was selected to go but he probably would not play in the game citing injury. The man went to Darfur in the friggin offseason. NO fails in comparison to that so this thread has ZERO merit. Seems like a poster with an agenda and someone with no idea what they are talking about and as realGM goes...most of you are followers and not leaders so nobody tried to even correct the idiot OP.
Personally if he said it a year ago or last night , he still said it . Right ?
TMac statement is the question .
Basically he took a dump on a city , a city with history and Culture that has seen a lot of negativity and to me this is something unique both finacially and for the image of the city of N.O .
He labeled it as the harlem poster stated earlier ........... SHADY and unsafe ...
So the timeline of his statement isnt the question , its what he said that values his character .

Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady said Wednesday he would consider skipping next year's All-Star game if he felt he wouldn't be safe in New Orleans.
"When they first mentioned to me that the All-Star game was going to be in New Orleans, the first thing I thought about is how much security they are going to have for the players and everybody there," McGrady said.
"I don't think it's the right city to have this type of event right now. I know the city is in need of trying to get back on their feet, in need of money. Safety comes first. I'm sure they have to do a lot of research and look into before they really make this decision."
The security issue became a larger concern after there were hundreds of arrests in Las Vegas during All-Star weekend.
"If I don't feel that I'm going to be safe, if I am on that team, I will look into probably not even going," McGrady said.
McGrady's comments came two days after union director Billy Hunter raised his concerns over New Orleans' ability to host the weekend's events, telling Newsday that, "If the union is not convinced that the city can accommodate the All-Star game, it's an issue that will be subject to litigation between the union and the league."
However, Hunter said he was just speaking hypothetically, and both he and NBA commissioner David Stern said they expect next year's weekend to be successful.

This article is a year old. And frankly he is making millions, he is a superstar in the NBA, if he doesn't want to go he doesn't have to, people here have no right to judge why a player doesn't want to go to the all-star game, its your choice, not anyone else, hes the one making the millions, hes the one that has made something of himself not you, let him decide what is right for himself. Again this is like a hate thread, shouldn't even be here, because this was discussed a year ago.

I agree he should have never said anything about New Orleans in the first place especially knowing that it's improving and much better now than it was earlier when it happened--though not the safest area, but to start a thread quoting this when IT'S A YEAR FREAKING OLD.
He said that last season, since then he's been to Darfur which is a far more devastating and dangerous place to be in and that experienced really changed his life, even going as far to making a foundation to try to make it better.
I agree with him not being an all-star, but just to clarify he's played 28 games this season (Still pretty pathetic I know, but better than 9).
So true haha.

So he has been healthy for what....9 games?

Okay , honestly this part didnt make any sense .
How do you know how much money I make , maybe Im a Bill Gates , and I love REALGM and it give me a chance to get away from the rat race that Im living in.
Does this mean Im a nobody if TMac makes millions or he's a superstar or my opinion doesnt count .

Agreeed , but when you sit there and insult a city that is basically looking forward to this event and is looking to rebuild its statues among one of the historical cities in the U.S that has gone thru hell and back , its really not to bright of TMac to bash on that city specially when majority of its population is African Amercians , so basically your calling your own people savages with no law and order , that a bunch of ruthless people are going to be there to rob you and steal YOUR MILLIONS .

Again you keep bringing up the money , I dont care how much money he has , I mean lets be real does money build character , or is he GOD cause he makes millions , does he have the right to put other people down , since he is gifted as a pro athlete , the same people and city that he is bashing contribute to his wealth .

Honestly Flash , not to disrespect anyone on here or this board .
You dont know the history surrounding my life , as I dont know about your life , but to say what TMac said , whenever he did shows he has no class or respect for anyone but himself , and correct me if Im wrong Tmac is one of the most selfish Athletes today .
I mean , remember the fact that he didnt want to play with his own cousin Vince .
How about what he did with the Majic .
Ya he's a millionare , he can do that . LOLLLL
I promise you on thing , no matter how much money you have , you still cant take it with you when you leave this earth , but your character , your legacy , who you were in this world will last longer than the millions you leave behind when your gone .

The fact that you even wrote this BS shows how little you yourself now about widely available factoids relevant to McGrady and his past situations.
What HE did to the Magic?
Most Magic fans on this board would agree it was a poor arrangement on BOTH sides, with the GM of the Magic being a total *** and calling TMac out to the media behind his back. Add in that they weren't honest with him or faithful to him and I'd say he had some pretty good and compelling reasons to ask for a trade. And meanwhile the media circus dragged his name through the dirt, culminating in some Magic fans hating on one of the greatest players to ever grace their court.
Tmac's selfish eh? And I suppose Kobe Bryant is the monument of giving and sharing? Tmac is one of the most unselfish, laid back, supportive teammates in the league. So yes, I point out that you ARE wrong.
And as other people have tried to pound into your brain, taking an article a year old is taking its wording out of context. A year ago, THE HORNETS weren't even playing in New Orleans. I think safety concerns in a recently (1 yr at the time) devastated city with a history of crime problems even BEFORE Katrina blew everything to hell (literally) are both appropriate and prudent. He shouldn't have said anything to the press, and internalized it, but like a lot of players (again, Kobe being a notable example), athletes don't always think before speaking, or ponder the possible consequences of their words.

I'll share this with you, I'm sure you know where this came from.
"Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."

AP - Orlando, FL - THIS JUST IN: Dwight Howard says he will skip the all-star game in New Orleans in three years because of the events surrounding hurricane Katrina and the flood that had washed over the city and caused rampant crime.
"I know I was just drafted in the league, but if I am ever selected to an all-star game and it happens to be in New Orleans, I probably will skip out on it because I feel there could be danger afoot" said Howard, the 6'11'' forward for the Orlando Magic.
Concerns about the quality of life in New Orleans after the disaster have some NBA players like Howard worrying that something may go wrong.

I don't think anyone who travels and spends time in Darfur would really be afraid to go to a 3 days New Orleans festival.
This thread has agenda all over it.

What the heck is the point of digging up a year old article? Typical haters.

TMac, Dwight Howard, and the entire Magic franchise are a bunch of soft, lame, crybabies who check for monsters in their closets. They aren't real men. Kobe is a real man, because real men rat out their teammates and make fools of themselves.

I for one found it pretty interesting.
I thought the quotes that were in the papers were kind of odd......first saying he wanted to give his spot up to another player, then saying he was going to be injured. And then AI coming out of no where to win (which is pretty suspicious as well). It just didnt add up.
The article added some fuel to conspiracy theorists like myself that wear armadillo hats to prevent the government from controlling us.

I'll be there All-Star week with my school, rebuilding houses and setting up a new Boys and Girls club. We've had 2 meetings so far....80% of the group are GIRLS and not one of them is 'afraid' of going.
If T-Mac was a gangster, he'd be one of those shitheads that never goes anywhere without his crew.

There is no doubt he'd be starting if he had been healthy and not missed 14 years. The main reason Iverson suddenly gained 80k votes within a weeks span is because Mcgrady said if he is selected he isn't going to play despite whatever the NBA may do. It's obvious what was done to the votes to circumvent this....
voting was fixed. stern didn't want the controversy of picking a replacement and leaving someone out.
for tmac to lose 90k of votes in 1.5 weeks, tmac must have gotten ZERO votes through 1.5 weeks and iverson must have around 8000 votes PER DAY. is that realistic?
