Exactly and I think whats gets left out is how physical the game was . Jordan was doing what he needed to prepare his team for the wars they went through with the knicks and Pistons . There was no time for being soft and wanting a hug like todays players . He put himself into a position where his team feared him more than the opponent and it was always about winning the title. Not winning MVP,making the playoffs ,a new deal or any of that .

This. Think of Michael as the Bulls own personal drill sargeant. He said what he said because he wanted people to be their best and he wanted to win, not just to put them down.

I think it's hard to argue that Jordan said what he said in the name of pure motivation. I'm sure that was part of it at times, but there is a level of scorn and contempt in his words that is absolutely impossible to miss. He's just a mean-spirited person, someone who took a pot shot at his own kids during his recent acceptance speech. I don't condemn him for that -- far from it -- but at the same time, it shouldn't be soft pedaled, either.

I think it's hilarious that MJ, the global icon, said things like that, and this is the first I've heard of many of them. HOWEVER, Shaq says something like "Howard is an imposter because he hasn't accomplished what I have". And people ripped the flesh from his bones!

some of yall giving jordan an easy pass for some of these nasty quotes. truth is jordan was a punk ass bitch. he wasn't saying it for any other reason than to yap. if he really wanted to "motivate" others, than why does he still act like a douche, even today? there are countless stories about how jordan acted like a douche in at all sorts of events, not to mention that HOF PC.

LOL. I'm convinced you're a parody.

Jordan was one of the, if not the toughest (mentally + physically combined) ever to play the game. He is anything but a punk ass bitch. Dont even argue that. Dont do it. Dont. You cant win.

This is what people do. They give each other a hard time and joke and get at other people occasionally. You really think this kind of talk doesnt happen in lockerrooms today? It's not a big deal. If those players are so mentally weak to get upset about that then how the hell did they ever make it into the NBA.

The ironic part is, If you asked Will Purdue to either a) not play with michael jordan and not get made fun of or b) PLay with michael jordan, get rings, play with the best player on the planet and deal with the jokes about him occasionally if he had any humor to himself would be able to laugh at, I would guess that Will fricken Purdue would choose option b 100/100 times.

You can call Jordan a lot of things, but a bitch isn't one of them. He was anything but that.

It's not the same thing. They were Jordan's teammates, he was the leader of that team and in his own way was holding them accountable for their play. I.e the "He's causing me too many turnovers" quote, he could've worded it better but essentially he's calling the guy out for turning the ball over too much. Shaq was talking **** about someone on another team about something ridiculous like a nickname (not that he doesn't have a point but still).

Jordan has the right to say all those things, douchbaggery and all. He did bring the Bulls 6 championships and a ton of marketing success.

Jordan's a dick to people he doesn't think are significant, but you still have to admire his competitiveness.

Also, if Wade was healthy and complaining + talking trash about his D-league teammates a few years back, I'm sure everyone would be nodding their head in agreement.

"You ever hear of a guy, six-eleven maybe and two hundred sixty pounds, a guy big and fat like that and he can't get but two rebounds, if that many, running all over the damn court and he gets two rebounds? Big guy like that and he gets one rebound. Can't even stick his ass into people and get more than that...Big, fat, fat guy. One rebound in three games. Power forward. Maybe they should call it powerless forward." - Michael ripping Stacey King a new one

Well if everything is a joke and is acceptable, why does it become national news when Shaq calls Howard an "imposter?" Why is Shaq villainized for RESPONDING to stupid questions about him? But Jordan punks somebody out in front of his family for having a bad game, and it's just that "he's ultra competitive, so it's okay". Ridiculous.

Nowhere does it say that he said that IN FRONT of the dude's family. It said that the guy was sorting through tix for his family (i.e., tix intended for his family's use).

Yeah, these quotes aren't even that harsh. If anything, it makes Michael look like a comedian. Funny guy. And 6 Championships to boot!

MJ was a world class a-hole.

Seriously, if the man hadn't also happened to be the greatest basketball player of the time, he'd just be another lonely, miserable, bitter old man with no true friends and a family that hates him, desperately searching for an outlet with which to validate his bloated, all-consuming ego.

Oddly enough, the man *was* the greatest basketball player of all time, and he's still all of those things.

Every great athlete is gonna be cocky to a certain extent, and many are downright douches.

But Jordan is up there in the argument with Rick Barry and Ty Cobb for all time sports bastards.

It's not a coincidence that he was an competitive, bitter a-hole and the world's greatest basketball player, that all-consuming competitiveness fueled him.

Can you imagine the furor if Bird had said something like that about Robert Parish? He'd have been run out of the league by the PC posse...but Jordan gets a pass...

You are actually the one sound racist...

LOL at the people here admiring him for this. He was a douche. I'm fine with that. I'd still want him on my team if I was a player, coach, gm, fan, but that doesn't mean he is not a douche and a bitter angry man. Winning doesn't replace class and respect. There are certain things one expects of a human being regardless if you are a garbage man or MJ.

Again, it is not a big deal to me because I would take him on my team every time, but that stop being blinded by your love for the man. He has always and will always be a world class a-hole.
