Re: NBA Expansion (Update pg. 16 - Silver says NBA Reconsidering Expansion)

Silver said in a news conference last month that the NBA was dusting off its long-dormant expansion consideration and had put more time into the concept during the current pandemic. He spoke with Durkan shortly thereafter,

People that like basketball deserve to have a nearby team to support, therefore Kansas.

While the NBA appears to be seriously considering expansion for the first time in years, it does not yet appear to be imminent.

“I would agree that there is discussion but no decision,” one governor told David Aldridge of The Athletic this week.

According to another high-ranking team executive, no serious consideration of expansion is likely to happen before the end of the 21-22 season.

Seattle is the most obvious expansion candidate and The Athletic was told that the league could even go with 31 teams for a while instead of 32. Las Vegas and Vancouver are the two cities that could get the second slot.

Seattle’s homecourt advantage is going to be ridiculous when they return

Vancouver will suck if they don't repatriate the Grizzlies identity tho.

Las Vegas is awful though that city doesn't deserve any teams.

Vegas or Vancouver make sense, they will both be in the NW conference, Minny will move east and OKC will move to the SW.

Personally I think it will be Vancouver... Vegas now has two pro teams... supporting three is... iffy.

Vancouver has Lululemon.
Portland has Nike.

I’ll on that basis, I’ll take Vancouver.

Let’s get a team in Montreal. Biggest city in North America without a team, basketball is blowing up in Canada, natural rivalry with the raptors, we’ve got a relatively new arena to play in, etc.

It’ll never happen, but it would be cool.

Living in the area, I'd be really excited for Vegas to get a team. Support has been really good for the two teams we have already (obviously the Raiders are brand new, but there was apparently a big fanbase here already). I can't imagine that there was a huge hockey fanbase before the Golden Knights, but it's huge here now. The NBA wouldn't be the first to market to tap that unmet demand, but so far there are good indications in terms of fan support. On the other hand, the WNBA team hasn't had great attendance here, though it isn't at the bottom of the league. UNLV is generally about 35th in NCAA men's attendance, despite them not being very good in years.

I think that Vegas would also make a particularly attractive place to sell away fans to come make a trip and see a game.

Canada East vs West too big a money spinner to give up.

Regardless of East vs West conference, they should schedule 4 games a season, every season
