If I remember correctly the owners only really cared about making money so trading Luka away didn't bother them (I have to assume the owners knew and were on board with it) Strange to fire him a year later.

I would guess Nico hyped the cost of Luka's supermax while totally downplaying the lost value of destroying an entire franchise

I know the people who think this trade wasn't an inside job are going to think it's just a bad GM getting fired. In reality, Adam Silver will take care of him for saving the Lakers franchise. They couldn't guarantee him job security but I'm sure he'll be taken care of somehow.

Because clueless owner believed him. Dumont was even publicly explaining how Luka doesn't have work ethics and lifestyle of Kobe, Bird and Shaq.

Now he sees there will be no championship games in near future and he fires him.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned in this thread already, but if I was a Mavs fan, I would be furious. Mavs were better off atleast rolling another year with him, and terminating him in the summer. Doing it now just screams incompetence by ownership.

How long until we hear ‘SELL THE MAVERICKS!’ chants break out now that Nico is gone? I’d be shocked if we don’t start hearing them immediately. Dumont is going to learn that firing Nico isn’t enough.

Well turns out, unsurprisingly, trading for a 32 year old big man that is always injured making 174 million overall the next 3 years for a generational talent was not best idea so someone had to be sacrificed.

The ironic thing is, AGAIN, that Dumont was the one who ordered the trade of Luka. No GM has that much power to trade a young superstar on his own. I'm actually curious if Mavs fans will start using their brains and chanting "Sell the team" because THAT should have been the original chant to begin with

And even if a GM does have the power to trade a young superstar on their own, that just means ownership is doing a terrible job managing the organization.

Which goes back to my original point: if I were a Mavs fan, I’d already be mad — but the timing of this would make me even more concerned. Optically, this just looks like incompetence.
