Any of you fools actually look at how close his hand is to the rim when he releases the ball? His hand is within inches of the rim. This is not only the stupidest thread of all time, it's the stupidest issue in the history of NBA debates. It's a non-issue. If you think it's a legit issue, you are officially declaring yourself as a moron.
A legit issue compared to what? All sports are pretty much silliness, yet we have this great big board devoted to discussion of one of them.

Compared to, say, the issue of who was the All Star Game MVP. Compared to, say, the issue of whether David Stern looks better with or without a moustache.

Poll: A Slam Dunk or not a Slam Dunk
This debate over the Howard dunk has grown pretty lengthy, with a lot of fans from both sides arguing the details of what constitutes a dunk both in the All star thread and in separate threads on many team boards. I figured that maybe we could get a consensus on whether it was a dunk or not, by running a poll.
Do you have to touch the rim? Do you even have to jump at all? Could you conceivably 'dunk' from the 3 point line according to some definitions? What's the differences between a dunk and a slam dunk? Did Dwight mean to throw the ball, or did he come up short and have no choice but to throw the ball? Was one of Moon's FT line attempts a dunk if you use the dictionary definition?

There was no poll option, and people just kept posting the same thing over and over again. So I'd figure this would settle it. You don't have to say a word, just let the poll speak for itself

It isn't a legitimate issue. It was a dunk by definition, and the judges, broadcasters, fans, and NBA officials on call seemed to be okay with ruling it a dunk...
