Looks like JJJ had a good debut. 15 points in 19 mins. Didn't miss a shot.

What about a guy like Jokic? He’s pretty doughy with some baby fat on him too. He’s not the athletic specimen that you draw up in the blueprints.

If Jokic hasn’t been held back, I don’t think Doncic’s athleticism can invalidate him from breaking out in the future.

I’d say overall the debut was pretty good, if I were Divac I’d be **** bricks he doesn’t turn into a star.

TO be fair, Jokic is center, Doncic is guard. It is much easier to overcome athletic disadvantage in basketball when you are huge. Altho, Jokic is not that much taller than Doncic actually is, but whatever.

I think Doncic will be good, Jaren Jackson will be good, Wendell Carter will be good. I think Bagley is obvious bust of the year, I just dont get his hype and man Kings did it again, its a shame. Vivek needs to step down from scouting and drafting, we all know he is heavily involved in the draft, and when he is in the room calling shots, none of his yesmen scouts have guts to call him out. That 2014 Kings draft reality show mini series was such a joke, never forget.

No proof Vivek is hands on now. Vlade is the problem and should have already been fired

The Rockets (especially Paul) properly introduced him to the NBA, showing him how much he has to learn defensively in the NBA. But I have no worries about his defense, he'll just need the experience to grow and no one better to pick on him than the Rockets' Guards to get this experience.

Offensively, I really liked what I saw. When a shot went up, he went for the offensive rebound. When a guard drove, he tried to get into spots close to the basket at times to provide an option. Showed good awareness, once when he found the open guy out of a double team in the post and once when he was patient finishing at the rim. Had a great looking 3 in guard-fashion and one great post move to score easily. A bit confused at times as to where to go but that'll also come with time.

Bucks have their first game coming up. I'm thinking Donte DiVencenzo is another rookie that will be nice. This draft has so much potential.

Not really suprised that the two guys everyone thought would stink, Bagley and Trae, are looking like stinkers.

This is such a strong draft class, SAC and ATL are going to be kicking themselves for years.

I don't think the problem can be ascribed to a single person for the Kings. I think the problem they have is more organizational than individual. It's fair to throw some of that blame at Vlade and Vivek, since they're the ones tasked with establishing that organizational structure in the first place, but that structure had already eroded some time ago. Their scouts, coaches, managerial team, etc. - they just don't work cohesively.

When Masai Ujiri took over the Raptors from Bryan Colangelo, he cleaned house. Long time scouts who had outlasted various GMs were let go - same for assistant coaches. It wasn't that they were necessarily even bad at their jobs, but the system was purged even getting into media and other team aspects that wouldn't necessarily be considered relevant. And Masai had been an assistant under Colangelo in Toronto only a year before, and that still didn't stop him. He went out and cleaned house to a very significant degree.

That's what I feel the Kings need right now. Not because anyone in particular is necessarily incompetent or even bad at their jobs. They need a fresh take and a new outlook on how to build a team. They need to get out ahead of the league again (I actually think Vivek wants this, he just doesn't have those ideas himself, and why would he?) and start being forward thinking. Back when they were winning they were ahead of the league having great passers and shooters at basically every position and even quality ballhandlers at every position. They were scouting Europe better than most teams, many of whom weren't even necessarily taking international players seriously at that point. Their defense was more fluid and they had a top notch defense despite starting quite a few players who weren't necessarily known for their defense like Peja, Webber, etc. Now? The league has passed them by. Clean house and try for a new outlook. Any particular individual on their team right now could be a part of that, even Vlade. They just can't all be a part of it, unfortunately.

A. define "everyone"

B. Trae had 8 assists in 20 minutes.

C. maybe that stink is coming from your broken eyes?

JJJ has off the charts size and tools. With him it is going to come down to two things: confidence and b-ball iq. Everything else is there: length, frame and strength(he’s thicker than you think), athleticism, shot, ability to finish with both hands, and decent ball handling especially considering his age and size.
I was at the game last night and watched him the whole time he was on the floor. Here are my takeaways
Defensively he is going to be elite. His interior d and timing is already there. He alters and smothers shots from all over the paint. He also has the twitchiness to defend the perimeter and isn’t scared. However, he has to learn when to dial it back after an early foul or two. I live that he plays hard but sometimes offense just beats defense. Especially in the NBA with peremiter teams like Houston. He got a dose of CP3 and Harden last night and they didn’t get by him but did hit shots off step backs or just getting him to open up either way. That’s gonna happen but he will be an excellent defender.
Offensively was a mixed bag. I’m not sure if it is the Grizz coaching staff or just lack of feel and iq, but he was standing around in the paint doing absolutely nothing for the majority of possessions. I feel like a guy his size that can shoot like him should fill and pick around the perimeter much more and open things up. He isn’t strong enough to bully defenders down low yet.
That being said he looked good when he got touches. A few nice out backs, a feed down low he showed great patience and finished with his left, then a really nice catch and shoot deep 3 that really has to get you excited.
Maybe it’s just the coaching staff trying to get him acclimated down low(he lived on the perimeter in SL). If he can find a balance and develop a little tighter handle, the sky is the limit. Seriously. His stroke is unorthodox but it’s true

Definitely think he does. Played pretty well so far, better than I would have expected for sure.

What the hell.....

Under every factual measurable, Giannis is European.

He was born in Greece, and he was never even outside of Greece's border until he was 18 years old. That means he is factually 100% European.

How Good Was Alonzo Trier... Last Night?

Post#459 » by Hubert44 » Thu Oct 4, 2018 11:01 am

Dude looked like James Harden. His shots were falling and looked confident as hell taking his man off the dribble and launching jumpers.

Why not let the dude play some more games. How about some regular season games? Too premature to say anything.
