Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2023-24 (Part 3: Son of Daughter of MVP thread)
Ok, updated MVP odds from FanDuel
Jokic......+240
Embiid....+260
SGA.......+300
Embiid jumps from 5th to 2nd. He'll have one more chance in Denver to make another major move (started the day +800).
He's probably going to need that given the relative missed games of him and Jokic halfway through the year.

He’s been the best performer this season, nobody has questioned that.
If you were putting a bet on Embiid not missing another 7 games it would be very risky.
Well and there's a good chance that someone like Jokic just outplays Embiid the second half of the season
Eh I don’t think so.
Nuggets are in a pretty comfortable spot and Jokic didn’t exactly go nuts towards the end of last season.
Only thing stopping another Embiid win will be health.

Doesn't matter. Rings don't lie, nor does being the only MVP in league history to never make a Conference FInal.
Like Harden, Embiid is a regular-season performer who lives off the whistle. When he can't get the same calls in the postseason, he crumbles.
Just another coddled fraud until he proves otherwise.
I only turned on this game with 6 minutes left in the 4Q. When did Denver put Gordon on Embiid?
Jokic can’t guard Embiid actually nobody on the nuggets can guard Embiid. Embiid has been better than Jokic this entire game.
Embiid can't guard Jokic either.
Did you miss Jokic backing Embiid up like he's a small forward? Is that guarding him?
Did you miss him grabbing 12 offensive rebounds and dropping in buckets with Embiid "Rim protector" under the rim?
Are you just closing your eyes when Jokic has the ball? It seems like it...
Jokic was great on the boards but his scoring was under his season average. And the same with his assists except his assists were way below his season average. Embiid did good on Jokic you can’t say the same the other way around.
They call me Hussien Fatal its a two game table im robbin you **** cradle wit a knife in your navel....

Embiid is a fraud. He intentionally sits out tough games, he tries to "play big" (for appearances' sake) in TV games, he sneak disses his competition and then pretends he didn't, he's a regular season performer who can't get it done in the postseason.
MJ would NEVER do the stuff Embiid does. Every night was game on and he played every game all out. No missing games out of fear or because you're not sure you'll get the hometown whistle.
Jordan was absolutely crushed by media and fans until he won a title in 1991. He had just won his 2nd MVP when he won his first title (1991).
No one expects Embiid to be Jordan, but the guy has major flaws and they have to be pointed out if you're going to keep it 100.
Also, the difference between the whistle Jokic gets and Embiid gets is huge.
Embiid played a back to back and tonight's nuggets game was the back-end of it. He dropped 41 while playing 39 minutes... But I guess you gotta keep saying he ducks tough games even when tonight doesn't fit your narrative at all.
Nuggets last played Sunday. Sixers played Monday(yesterday). Embiid had 40 in both games btw... Also coming off a knee injury.

With their home court advantage I think they’ll still be a good chance of that regardless of what sort of numbers Jokic does or doesn’t put up.
With a team that has won a chip already you do sometimes see them focus more on health towards the end of the season over potential seedings but we’ll see.

Final tidbit from tonight's game.
Of the 9 DEN players who played, 3 of them had a positive plus minus. One was Jokic.
Of the 9 PHI players who played, 5 of them had a positive plus minus. None was Embiid.
"The others" won the game for PHI and lost it for DEN. Not a shock IMO.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion Thread 2023-24 (Part 3: Son of Daughter of MVP thread)
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why Embiid’s jumpshot is a lot more efficient in the regular season compared to the playoffs.
When your whole game is predicated on foul baiting, defenders get too scared to even contest your shot because they know they’ll get called for a foul which in turn means Embiid just ends up shooting uncontested jump shots all game.
Problem is they don’t allow his foul baiting in the playoffs & let defenders actually defend. This leads to Embiid becoming really inefficient because he hasn’t prepared himself properly in the regular season.
Which is why nothing will change in the playoffs because again he was too focused on his stats rather than preparing for playoff basketball.

Lol. Embiid was a 0 +/- for the game.
Jokic was a +1.
Talk about monumental differences.

Embiid clearly outplayed Jokic tonight. People using plus-minus don't know the limitations of that stat. (BTW one game doesn't matter that much weigh all 82 games equally etc etc)

Embiid did good on Jokic? Jokic scored nearly every time Embiid was brave enough to match up with him lol.
Assists are the product of open shots going in.
If I post a compilation of 8 wide open shots Jokic created (meaning no defender within 5 feet) that were missed, will you take a week off posting? Or will you ignore it

Going out of the game with momentum, up 5, and returning to a tied game with the Sixers fans screaming and on their feet...
All while Embiid/Jokic were out for 5 minutes.

The nuggets shot like 57% in the 1st half he should of ended the half with more assists than he had. Embiid was making plays for his Teammates with 10 assists. Usually Jokic is the one getting his team open shots.
But let’s stop acting like Embiid did a terrible job on Jokic when he held him below his season average in 2 of the 3 major categories.

take it on the chin for once in your life. You spend the other 360 days of the year writing dissertations about how embiid isnt all that (the nicest possible interpretation of the embiid obsession)

Sorry - Embiid, who guarded Jokic for 5 or 6 possessions, held Jokic to below his season average in ASSISTS (a stat reliant on teammates scoring open shots)?
Can you please elaborate for me and anyone else who is confused by this statement (I assume I'm not the only one)?
Embiid & Jokic primarily met underneath the rim, for rebounds, where Jokic dominated him.
I have never, ever, seen one player get credited with "Holding the other player to less assists", especially when guarding the other player for like 6 possessions...

Hating Embiid = rightfully saying, in many posts, that he'd be the most dominant player in the NBA (Regular season and playoffs) if he didn't foul bait.
Man, I wish I got this type of hate!
What you guys characterize as hate is responses & adding context to the ...[I'll use appropriate language] "Adoration" shown by Sixers fans to him, disregarding all faults.
