Ah, sh*t...

Micic might skip it as well, although it sounds like pure speculation at this point in this article: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/07/nikola-jokic-reportedly-wont-play-in-2023-world-cup.html

I would say he looks pumped up in the photo.

This is the same reason why I'm expecting Murray to pull out of the tournament too. Especially when you consider he's coming off a major surgery and extra rest after a long season just makes sense.

And also apparently no Nikola Kalinic and no Vasa Micic.

I couldn't be happier that Jokic is going to skip the WC tournament. He'll get much needed and deserved rest, and then prepare to help the Nuggets defend the title for 2023-2024.

Murray's ACL surgery was 2 years plus 3 months ago. There's no reason for him to skip this for that reason.

Woah, I know you are Serbian, but come on dude. It's not like he skipped the Olympics, WC in basketball has little to no value, to be honest.

My boss is a serb and he's basically in the same camp as sgt. I understand them to be honest. Playing for your national team should be a duty and a honor. One WC gold with Serbia would trump anyhting he'll ever win in NBA.

He talks about 2002 world cup victory in the US still. Didn't really give a damn about Jokic winning the NBA title.

Too bad Jokic isn't, apparently.

Massive respect to Bogdan Bogdanovic who is a true leader of the national team.

Pathetic from Jokić he skipped in 2019 too. Nuggets won't repeat anyway.

I know I am OP and all, but as we all said, FIBA Olympics matter far more than FIBA World Cup, to everyone, and someone said its cold war remnant perception, what? Always been like this sadly, FIBA has no prestige, they just rely on Olympic fame in global comp, thats how it always been.

And his body has suffered from it with the amount of injuries Bogdan has had.

Then Jokic can apply for American citizenship and we'll gladly accept him.

Reality appears to be lost on the Serbian fans. Jokic carried the Nuggets and played every game in 2021-2022 season, then he played in Eurobasket, then the 2022-2023 season + a finals run. Playing the WC would be overkill. He needs a summer off to rest.

Besides, the US is sending their B-team. The Olympics are next year. There will be opportunities.

Not surprising though. Jokic views basketball as a job. Him playing games for free is essentially him doing them a favor/working illegally.

You can't teach just anybody to play like Jokic, but can't teach love for the game either.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.
