Sounds like Pop has gone soft with age, unfortunately, though it does make sense considering we are in the superstar-empowerment era. Pretty sure Spurs front-office will do anything to cater to Wemby so they don't have another Kawhi situation in their hands.

Spurs don't really want to win this year. They'll spend this season evaluating Wemby and how other key pieces (Vassell, Johnson, Sochan etc.) can fit long term or whether they'll need to assemble a new supporting cast to get the best of him long term.

This year will be about letting Wemby do his thing, develop as a player, win a few games but ultimately add another high pick to the roster before any major moves are made.

Sure we do. Everyone from Pop on down said so. It's just combining a generational talent (who we've determined not to box in per tweet) as well as a new starting five and a player learning a new point position makes for few reps so far in putting together something unconventional. It will take time.

Wemby isn't even the best big in Texas the past ten games, and arguably not the best rookie. It's sad KOC has to bait for social media reactions because he's a knowledgeable individual. Wemby has been fine as a rookie, but he has room to grow to become an All-Star or All-NBA level player.

If recent memory means the last 2 seasons, I guess he's the best rookie I can remember.

My guess was they decided to let him do whatever during the first 10 games to see how he prefers to operate and what he is good/not so good at. I imagine we will begin to start seeing his game change as the season progresses and the coaching staff decides where they want him and how they want him to operate on the floor. Only thing that makes sense watching them so far because yeah it didn't seem like they were calling much for him or designing much around him yet.

Please stop trolling....

Victor current stats (which are likely to improve) : 19.7 pts 8.8 reb 2.5 ast (44.7% shooting), and he's already in the top 5 of the league in blocks (2.5 blk).

For the record, the ROY stats over the last 10 years :

2023 Paolo Banchero : 20.0 pts 6.9 reb 3.7 ast (42,7%)
2022 Scottie Barnes : 15.3 pts 7.5 reb 3.5 ast (49,2%)
2021 LaMelo Ball : 15.7 pts 5.9 reb 6.1 ast (43.6%)
2020 Ja Morant : 17.8 pts 3.9 reb 7.3 ast (47.7%)
2019 Luka Doncic : 21.2 pts 7.8 reb 6.0 ast (42.7%)
2018 Ben Simmons : 15.8 pts 8.1 reb 8.2 ast (54.5%)
2017 Malcolm Brogdon : 10.2 pts 2.8 reb 4.2 ast (45.7%)
2016 Karl-Anthony Towns : 18.3 pts 10.5 reb 2.0 ast (54.2%)
2015 Andrew Wiggins : 16.9 pts 4.6 reb 2.1 ast (43.7%)
2014 Michael Carter-Williams : 16.7 pts 6.2 reb 6.3 ast (40.5%)
2013 Damian Lillard : 19.0 pts 3.1 reb 6.5 ast (42.9%)

Victor's stats are clearly comparable AND at the same time he's shown enough defensive potential to have his name in the GB DPOY poll !

Can't wait for tonight's comprehensive referendum on the next 10-15 years of Chet and Wemby's respective careers.

I'm sure in the morning we will have a complete answer to who is the superior player.
These are the opinions of one lifelong Spurs fan, nothing more

Sounds like Jones, Sochan, and Keldon will all be out. 0 PGs :banghead: :nonono:

Can't wait to see everyone overreact to Chet having a solid efficient night while being assisted on 90% of his shots as Wemby has to shoulder the entire offense by himself while anchoring our pathetic defense

Wow, damn, that's gonna get ugly, especially that 2nd unit with guys who'll be getting their first minutes of the season.

Interesting, I just read a piece on espn called "Victor vs. Chet has makings of NBA's next intense rivalry"

I guess that wasn't a coincidence.

I was thinking though of the new young Cs, while reading, that Sengun may have to be thrown into that group as a rival. While older and more polished, they are all on young up and coming teams so will be battling for years.

The Sochan experiment has failed and is now actively hurting Wembanyama's development. It's malpractice to have guards that bad and no depth behind the only actual PG on the team. The amount of bad shots that Victor takes is a direct result of pressing, he gets nothing easy.

Preach. Everyone thought Wemby went to a good situation but it's looking like he went to a bad one.

So can we unpin this now? Seems odd to have one for him and not any of the other rookies the last few years

Sochan at PG clearly isnt working but what solution do they have. They could move Tre to the starting lineup but then you got Sochan or Keldon leading a 2nd unit where no one can get their own shot. I dont think Devonte Graham is the answer. They're stuck unless they trade for a PG.

Quite clear they’re still rebuilding.

Which makes all these calls of Wemby MVP, DPOY etc just absolutely absurd.

He’s a rookie developing like anyone else.
