They did the same with OG.

He’s a complimentary piece at this stage of his career. And yes depending on the day he’s 3rd or 4th option rn. I’d rather have RJ on his contract than Siakam making $80m over 2 years.
He's been a border line All Star every year since he's made it. Even when we won the chip he wasn't the 3rd or 4th option. Just admit you know nothing. Choosing RJ on his contract vs whatever you just typed for Siakam is irrelevant to everything you typed.
He isn't 39 man, he is firmly in his prime at 29yo.

He might as well be 39 , who knows

Our 2 first round selections can't get playing time so there would be no way we would pick two more rookies and give them playing time. The 26 pick hurts a little bit but I think we can live with that. The only thing that really hurts is the departure of Brucy, but it is what it is. Of course this all changes when Pascal leaves us in the offseason. That makes it from great to horrible, but I guess we have to take these kind of risks with a guy like Hali on the team. You accumulate assets and capspace for scenarios like this. Pritchard set this up pretty great imo. And I really don't see a comparable guy that is available for our picks and some assets..
His name is Bruce Brown ( BB gun ) recent Champion , best Fourth player on a Championship team
You don’t trade for Siakam and give away this kind of player , Pacers just removed themselves from the contention by simply doing that
Toronto won this trade , they traded unwanted piece

He's a solid 3 point shooter and defender who doesn't give you much else at this stage of his career. Maybe I'm missing something but watching him play this season has left me anything but impressed

Still not a contender imo
What did we give up exactly?
You think the 25th pick in 2026 is making or breaking our contender status? Pacers were already 4th in the East before Hali’s injury. They had already beaten every top East team including Boston twice and Milwaukee 4 times.
You traded them for a borderline all-star talent. Sure you guys improved, but I still think Mil/Bos/Philly/NY are all better.
Also Siakam is a win now player in the middle of his prime. Hali needs a younger running mate.

You don't seem to have watched any Siakam if you're thinking Smith is a better shooter than Siakam.
Siakam is guarded WAY closer than Smith, who is a non-thought on the floor.
Siakam is >50% FG for the year. If you remove his horrendous November (when the Raps formally switched pecking orders between him and Scottie), he is at >40% 3pt for the year.
I am pretty sure that boomershadow is talking specifically about 3-point shooting. Even if Siakam is above 40% this year if you remove his worst month, Smith is currently shooting 46.8% from 3. That is a pretty amazing number. Smith is definitely having an amazing year, shooting-wise.
Do you really expect Smith to sustain 47% the entire year? He's taken 62 threes total so far the entire year, he's going to need to put in a lot more volume to prove the 3 point shooting is legit considering his career averages.

He was already coming off the bench.
Toppin is fine, he’s established himself as a rotational big. That’s it, and it’s better than being out of the league. We likely let him walk this off-season to make room for Walker to play behind Pascal. I’m sure he’ll get picked up and play a role for somebody.
