Drafting three players of that caliber would afford any GM years on that team unless the owner is some deluded psycho.
They made one NBA finals and had three different players who went on to win MVP. I am not sure if they never won a title in a big market that he wouldn't have ever been on the hotseat. What GM's had that kind of longevity without a chip? I'm genuinely asking.
I don’t know.
There’s a lot of terrible GMs in this league and I can’t think of anyone else who drafted 3 MVP caliber players so I don’t think he was ever in danger of being moved on.
Injuries ruined the initial core more than anything.
You also have to remember that he quickly rebuilt things after KD left. He got Paul George, that quickly failed and he managed to turn him into an absurd haul.
I just think any GM that hits on 3 MVPs will live off that for years, even if they don’t win a title.
I agree they will be able to live off of it. Just not with the original team. Presti has job security like he's RC Buford or Pat Riley. Why would he leave?
