Nope. Hinkie approves.

One of the biggest misconceptions about "The Process" is this thought that everything is about "optionality", gathering assets for down the road and winning every trade. Sam Hinkie was all about gathering assets - but then using them to acquire STARS.

This is EXACTLY where the "process" is supposed to go, IMO.

Boston is gonna play Harris and Reddick tight and sag way off Simmons, Butler and Emblid and dare them to beat them from outside(much the way they defended Simmons last year in playoffs).

I still like Boston to prevail in the east.

Good luck "sagging off" of Jimmy Butler.

Someone may have said this already, but we're 25 pages in and I dont want to look lol. But this isa major win for the Clippers. Think about it. The plan was always to re-sign Tobias, but he's been an all-star caliber player this year. He's getting the max, and the Clippers never wanted to sign him to that. They wanted to steal him on that 4/80 deal. The Clippers send Tobi to Philly who can now beat Toronto and then even possibly beat Golden State. Kawhi and KD. Plus two 1sts and 2 seconds that could easily be in the 31-40 range with how poor Detroit is and how bleak their future is.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Yes. Hinkie is under Morey management tree. Getting the stars is always the priority.

Great work by West and this is how you build a contender, IMO. Of course, nothing is given, no idea if they will get big names in the off-season but at least they will not be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Also a good trade for the Sixers but it is really short-sighted. They went all in. The problem I see is if they do not win it all this year (which is unlikely) they will probably lose Butler in the summer and they are left without any assets. They blew everything Hinkie gathered in no time...

1) Why can't they win it all? They just beat GSW in GS. They didn't have Klay, and we didn't have Harris. I would argue that - as long as they add another wing defender, they have better than a puncher's chance;

2) Interesting take from the fan of a team that maxed Horford and Hayward - two top 20ish guys, IMO. Was maxing Hayward and trading for Kyrie not "going all in"?

3) Assuming that the Sixers have every intent to re-sign both Butler and Harris, why is the window not still WIDE open for at least the three years after that? Sure, Ben will probably go to LA after his next contract, and years 4 and 5 of Butler's contract will be an overpay, but assuming those four guys are still together and develop chemistry, aren't the Sixers a perennial favorite for the next 3-4 seasons?

I Think the goal is to keep them both with whatever it takes. And resign Simmons in 2020.
If the Sixers win at least one title during that 5-year span, I all pays off. You need to risk to win championships.

As a Bucks fan I also love it for the 76ers. I love their Isiah Thomas thought of team building. A couple of years ago I thought they would rule the east because they had Simmons Embiid, the third pick in the draft and a ton of draft capital. Well they have Simmons and Embiid and two C level stars to show for it.

Now I need the 76ers to max out Butler and Harris. That will make the Ben Simmons, JJ Reddick ( who is really important to this team) and Joel Embiid negotiations really interesting.

Says the fan of the team with Giannis and a bunch of C stars. You just can't make this stuff up.

In your short time here you were loved buddy. Sucks to lose ya, but had to be done :(. At least Clippers sent Bobi with him. Sadly he's just not cut out to be a #1 option. On Philly he's gonna kill it.

This is a fantastic trade for both teams. This is what Detroit wanted to do but the Sixers have just done it better.

Ugh this is sad. These guys were never meant to be long term, but this team was super close. They were professional. No drama, loved playing together.

Jazztop wrote:Probably a better trade for the Clips. Sixers get another borderline all star making it 4 players who are either fringe or actual all stars so that looks great on paper. Clippers weren’t going to do too much this season anyway and I think they’re selling Harris at his absolute peak and getting to fully reload the chamber.

The problem for the Sixers is that this doesn’t do a lot for their depth by taking out three rotation pieces for essentially one as Boban is just a big tree and I haven’t seen much of Scott. Landry looked like a steal and I’m really not sure this moves their championship needle and they’re going to have to pay big to keep Butler and Harris.

So good for Brand for making a move but I think he tried to swing for the fences instead of getting on base. I guess time will tell but if Philly doesn’t make the East Finals then this season’s a fail.

Even if they don't win it this season, this is still a great long-term play. They still have two top-35 picks this summer (they have the CHI 2), they will have both the Mini-Bird for Redick and the MLE to add to the roster, and they now become a destination for ring-chasers. Even if years 4 and 5 of Butler's deal are an overpay (which they will likely be), the team is set up to contend for a title for at least the next 3-4 years.

Absolutely. Hinkie would tell you it is all about getting STARS...and to get stars, you acquire assets (check), hope you hit in the draft (Embiid and Simmons), and then make your move to add the final pieces (Butler and Harris).

This is the Super-Saiyan form of "The Process". I love it.

Never a big fan of trading away future unprotected picks.

The goal was different in the Hinkie years. Those picks were accumulated for these type of moves.

Philly's starting 5 looks scary good. But seems like a lot to give up for a half season rental.

He's not a rental.

Interesting post from a Dubs fan whose ownership is paying ELEVENTY BILLION dollars for their team this season.

It is theoretically possible for teams other than the Dubs to pay the tax. You KNOW that...right?

Is Tobias Harris really a guy you want to give a max contact to? He's now on his 5th team in what 7 seasons?

I’m livid at him for it - so many others have been affected in an undesirable way all cause he wanted to be in LA.

I think Philly made enough moves to somewhat compensate for his not coming now - at least in theory. Is their roster now as a good, or close to as good, as it would have been had LeBron signed into their cap space?

If you have three players who are a lot better than him - why not? i'm not sure if he will be given a max though.

If the Sixers end up in the finals this year, or hell win it all, it's undeniable proof that tanking works. Sure Simmons and Embiid are unbelievable talents, but then Noel, Okafor, and Fultz have busted hard. Those are your 1st, 3rd, and 6th overall picks. Three years of tanking down the drain. And yet it was worth it because they kept putting themselves in positions to draft potential superstars.

Tobias is a perfect fit for that squad and if they win it all this year nobody will care about this picks.

I agree though it's a huge risk but if you are Philly I'm sure they realized they are not as good as Bucks/Raps so had to make a move.

I don't think the 2020 Philly pick will hurt because they have Simmons + Embiid but the Miami 2021 unprotected one can bite them in the ass.

They only have chance to win the east, the ring is packed in GSW.

I dunno. They just beat GSW at home a few days ago. GSW was trying to win and had all their guys too. And that was before this trade. They’ve got a shot in a series.
