Re: Shams: Magic Johnson steps down as Lakers President of Basketball Operations
I think it went down like this:
- Jeanie has a meeting with Magic and tells him he needs to go, time to shake things up
- to save face, Magic is told to announce that he's leaving on his own
- Magic gives a half assed press conference for which he clearly wasn't prepared/didn't care
- Magic makes a fool out of himself during the press conference

Bet Griff gets hired and they keep Walton because Jeanie doesn't want to pay two coaches.

He totally sounds like he's saying that tomorrow he was going to have to fire Luke and didn't want to be a bad guy. He prefers to hang out and get looked up to by the younger ones in the game.
Basically, this was cool y'all but...I'm rich...don't want to do this job thing...and I gotta bounce. Have fun!

The Mavs are dead to me now.

So let’s see.
Stint as Lakers coach- Fail
The Magic Hour TV show- Fail
Lakers POBO- Fail
Like LeBatard said dude keeps getting gigs because he’s charming but he’s not qualified to do these jobs at all.
Lakers can probably get any exec they want and now at least remotely have a chance at AD because of this.

Lakers have a clean slate essentially. Cap space, picks and some semblance of youth. This is good for them.

A lot of this has to be correct... I mean, if Jeanie really is a "sister" to you, do you really blindside her like this? Hell no.
Now, the question is what caused item #1? Did Jeanie get the sense that nobody wanted to come to LA? Was she upset about the AD fiasco? Was Magic getting tired of looking stupid to the public while Jeanie was?
So many questions... I can't help but wonder about the tampering stuff too. Maybe that isn't quite over and magic wanted no part of it...

Like I said, GM Lebron is in charge.... LOL....King Lebron loves to fire coaches and President. LOL
A President who thinks Lonzo Ball is a great player should not be President.
Move over....Lebron is bringing his own people or he will threaten to leave LOL..that's how he rolls..he knows it...he has the upper hands....

Nah magic had to go so he can tamper as a undercover agent for the Lakers. That's really the perfect role for him.

Can i ask a question? How deep into your ass do you have to be to pull stuff like this out?
Like i usually discard comments like this but i just find it hilarious that...without proof...without anything linking Lebron to Magic stepping off..people still blame Lebron.
Now dude if you have some proof, information anything that links Lebron to whats going on right now please share!
otherwise you are as Trump says ''Fake News''

Re: Shams: Magic Johnson steps down as Lakers President of Basketball Operations
My personal theory is that Jeannie wouldn't let him fire Luke and there's too much of a rift between him and Luke for him to stay with the team, but Jeannie is too close to magic to fire him, so he stepped down on his own.
Also, the bad blood with the lakers young players caused by the AD saga can be thrown into the past since it can all be put on Magic, the young guys don't have to feel unwanted anymore by management.

Having a chance at AD means they have to outbid someone.
They really don’t have the assets for that short of winning the lottery or having other suitors like Boston drop out of the running, as their pick is a late lottery pick right now, their two main trade assets in Lonzo and Ingram are both banged up, and Lonzo’s dad has already made a stink about not wanting him in New Orleans.
It can be done but requires a lot of luck or a lot of legwork be done in shopping Lonzo to other teams for assets that New Orleans wants.

Jeannie doesn't operate that way, nor did her dad. This season was a disappointment, but everyone was looking toward the offseason, including Magic. Magic isn't stepping down if Kawhi, KD, Or another big star is on the way, why would he? Pretty obvious that LA is likely to not get any big names. Maybe Jimmy Butler at best, so Magic decided to bail before his struckout.

Damn, Luke really has a hold on Jeanie Buss. She choose Walton over Magic it seems.

This can't bode well for FA can it? Magic must know the big fish are going elsewhere
