Scientifically speaking this is true (trying to stay on topic.) China has finally banned wild animal markets, hopefully they can limit black market activity as well.

They've been eating that crap for generations and all of the sudden this sh.. happening? Wonder if some really that slow.

It's not the first time. This is the third one in the past 20 years, it's just the first to cause the calamity we have today. And ya, thats kinda how viruses work. The vast majority wont work their way around the globe

PC culture is ridiculous. Take down the borders, travel bans and lets pretend we dont know where it came from cause it might hurt someones feelings and be labeled racist

You aren't stupid tho. You know he's not using that term as information. He's saying it over and over in an attempt to deflect blame anywhere but at himself.

And it absolutely is leading to Asians that had nothing to do with any of it getting needlessly harassed or worse in this country.

It's needless.

Disagree and think it needs to be said. Are there really Chinese being attacked now over here?

Our media is much more worried about politics and putting the blame on Trump then the original problem.

Genetic make of it don't look like regular virus. I'm on board with conspiracy theory that out there. Why it infect destroy structure of the cell like HIV/AIDS. No other virus has been like that ever.

Me too.

But it really isn't something to be totally stressed about. Here's why:

America has a population of 327 million. That means for it to even reach 1% of the population, it would have to spread to 32.7 million people. So far in Wuhan the total cases are under 100 thousand. I feel like even if it were to hit 32.7 million people across the US they would have a vaccine by then. And lets say 5% are fatal, that would be a total of 1.6 million deaths. Which is A LOT. Crazy a lot.

But is only 0.004% of the total population.

And that would be the worst case in my opinion because I don't see it reaching 32.7 million people, that's a ridiculously high number. And even if it were to approach numbers that high, I think vaccines will be created by then because it will take a long time to get there.

Bad math bruh!

It's only 0.004 because they aren't testing.

And because we're at the beginning. As it was said so many times sheer numbers are not that important. Trend is important. 1 month ago there were 3 registered cases in Italy. It took the virus 1 month to 10 000x the number of registered cases.

Though that speed is slowing down as number of cases increase but still. It took 6 days for Italy to double its cases. If that speed is kept, in 30 days there will be 1 million known cases. In another 30 days 32 million people... (And real cases are not always known and lagging a few days behind that...) The same trend is followed in the US.

i am asian born in the good ole USofA and when i have passed some people on the sidewalk they hold their breath. LMAO i only wish they'd shy from me too and give me some space...and btw, F' them and their prejudice

LaLouie, the holding the breath thing, it might be because you're human. I can't speak for the people you passed on the street. But I can speak for myself. In recent days whether at work or out in public getting food, wherever. Even with people I know. I have been holding my breath or exhaling in the short time I am interacting or standing near them. It's about the virus. Not about anybody's prejudice in my case. It's with everybody I come close to. No exceptions.

Just as you wished in your first paragraph, hoping people practice judicious spacing. That's exactly the purpose of holding breath or exhaling when I am close to people temporarily. Why risk breathing the vapor that comes from their lungs if you don't have to? If somebody did the same with me I wouldn't be offended.

I'm pretty much attempting to be aware of every potential molecule I touch, brush up against with my clothes, and breath in the air. That includes avoiding breathing in other peoples' breath. I kind of assume that's one of the main ways it's transmitted, through moisture in the air especially out of peoples' lungs. It's why Kyle Kuzma claiming sanitizer doesn't work seems silly to me, maybe he knows somebody who contracted that uses sanitizer all the time, so now he thinks it doesn't work. And with the 4 Nets, I assume these 4 were in a room talking to each other in close proximity, breathing each others' breath, if they caught it from each other. If not sweating on each other and wiping their face, or sharing drinks, or passing the dutchie to the left hand side. I don't think it takes much.

well, i don't think they hold their breath passing by other races. but no big deal. i was just using it to segue into my comment later. even i understand it, i was just making a remark on it. i find (re utah) it interesting that only two players are infected considering the whole team at some point share the same space and air. the air in the team jet is recirculated is it not? so like,,,just how close do they have to be

They ate them for generations. Their people went through a lot of starving throughout their history, some human cannibalism been reported as well.
Also it's not like other nations don't eat exotic and dirty animals.

not interested in getting into it on Trump other than to say as the leader of the country and one who was actively working against taking measures early, he absolutely deserves a ton of criticism.

That said, it's clear that someone was able to get through to him and the US Govt seems to be all-in on trying to deal with this now so I'm not going to waste time or energy playing the blame game. There will be time enough once we are through the crisis to identify some issues that contributed to making the issue worse.

And no it doesn't need to be said over and over. Everyone knows where the virus first started spreading. And yes Asians are getting harassed by ignorant people being led by Trump and others continuing with that labeling.

And sorry but that sucks and is needless.

I've been holding my breath every time I pass close to someone in public, and not getting on elevators with too many people. Race is irrelevant. I dont want to be breathing in anyone's exhalations. I also tell myself it probably makes zero difference, but do it anyway.

US mortality rate is currently at 1.5% in total. Still heavily skewed towards old & underlying conditions, WA state care facility. If the top level rate drops to 0.5%, what is the plan then? Full panic still?
