The more I think about this I don’t hate Luka for AD for the Mavs. I think the team could be more balanced and better in some aspect at least for 2-3 years. Getting away from that supermax had to be part of logic. All that said the value was off. Mavs needed at least one, maybe 2 additional firsts imo.

I feel for Mavs fan because Harrison sounds like a cocky idiot which doesn't make sense cause last I checked he's won no rings. You would think he would hint at Luka wanting out, Kidd not getting along with Luka, or something else that could justify this slightly in the public eye. Instead he seems to be infatuated with Davis and thinks he's secretly the best player in the league. His infatuation with both Davis and Kyrie is weird too unless he favors American stars over International stars. This isn't corruption, collusion, or conspiracy this is just a very cocky possibly dumb sports gm who thinks he's the smartest person in the room which unfortunately there seems to be a lot of them across sports.

AD is a top player still and on both ends. He'll do well in DAL. What's shocking is that they didn't shop Luka and how quick it went down. No leaks and no news that Luka or AD were unhappy. This doesn't happen. If DAL had decided to trade Luka no matter what, why would they not try to get a better deal? They 100% could've got more and to trade an asset like Luka without listening to offers is just nuts. The way it's happened and the secrecy around it is mental. I don't know anything about Nico but nobody is this stupid.

This should have had the NBA itself warning the owners of the Mavs that they are potentially going to harm the franchise. Anyone with a brains knows this needed like 4 1sts to even get the smell off it

Okay so how does this happen? A first time GM has the power to trade away the franchise player and lock to be future HOF who hasn’t even hit his prime yet. And he does this without the coach knowing as well.

That just seems like a flat out stupid way to run a NBA team.

I may start to roll with the Mavs to Vegas in the future rumors now. No modern sports owner does this especially if their star has not asked to be traded or given hints he wants out. The only reason you do this as an owner is if you genuinely don't care whether the team is successful or not in it's current market long term and you're possibly looking for a way to relocate the franchise. It's already been noted that the Mavs owners want a new arena that goes along with a casino resort so if there are any hints that they may not get everything they want it would be pretty easy for them(or frankly any team) to pick up and move to Vegas.

The thing is I don't think they needed to trade Luka if they wanted AD. A package centered around Kyrie, Hardy and Lively would have gotten it done.
