Feels like I see this at the end of every other game, Lakers, Raptors, Clippers... "but he plays so hard".

If the Rockets win 55 - Harden should be the MVP.

Completely wide open teammate, shoots over 3 people for the last shot. :noway:

Even though i check the tracker everyday i really don't think that, if the nba ended today, the ranking would look like this.

I guess: 1)CP3 2/3) Harden and lebron, i don't know the order 4)Durant 5) Russ

Honest, no trolling question:
- can we still use the best player on the best team narrative when picking this year's most valuable player?

You're right. It's going to be a tough MVP race between Davis, Cousins, Wall and Embiid this year.

I think you just casually listed the 4 division champions from SW, PA, SE, ATL. I would add Giannis and Towns too.

Seems about right. Not sure about Kevin Love being in the top 10. I would put Kemba Walker or Isaiah Thomas at that 10th spot.

So Westbrook is vanishing already in the race, I have a hard time believing in KD/Curry for this year... I also will see if Houston can go for 55W , they are not off pace but I'll wait to see if they can really go for by february.

So... I would say

SunKing wrote:Post-ASG IMHO it will be about Chris Paul, LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard. Narrative and post-ASG run will make the difference. I just clearly not see a MVP on a team under 54 victories.

Every year it's the same, people are getting erected for players putting crazy numbers (which likely tend to down as season goes) on playoffs fighting teams.

Just remember Kobe ended 4th in 2006, Westbrook didn't have a single first place vote in 2015, in 2003 T-Mac was 4th and didn't even be close to TD & KG in voting (same for Kobe ending 3rd) etc... History showed players on fring playoffs team get no love, and I will just act like this is the case until proved wrong.

Durant is MVP clearly. Best stats and best player on the best team. 30.6 PER and a near 70 TS% so far, he's much better than Westbrook.

Clippers won't sustain this level of play and Paul's numbers aren't that great or anything.

ITP: someone who quotes an efficiency stat and then completely dismisses a guy whose stats are all about efficiency

Even though i agree with you that Durant's been amazing and historically effecient this season, i don't believe the voters will give him the award unless Steph miss a bunch of games and KD countinues to produce at this level. Narrative wise, there's close to zero chance for Durant to become the MVP this season.

No way Durant or Curry win the MVP. Remember when Lebron first went to Heat? Arguably the worst MVP of all time was selected to avoid giving it to someone who created a super team

Bulls won >60 and earned the 1 seed and he was a visual phenom out of nowhere. There was a narrative. Curry/KD may be better offensively than any duo all time though, so voters likely won't choose one or the other as #1. Could easily see both top 5 though.

i dont respect this award because of the unfair team success criterion. it is named most valuable player award yet the player's team's regular season record is much more important than the player himself's performance. in this sense, we cant include anthony davis in mvp discussion even if he has 35 ppg, 14 rpg and 3 bpg. it is not his fault his teammates being scrub.
