The team was good enough to get to the semis with a mediocre coach, but for the championship you need a really good coach, and that's why Thibs is not with the team anymore. Those who laugh at Thibs getting fired while the team got to the semis have not been following either the Knicks or how Thibs used to coach them very closely. Those who have watched know exactly why he was fired, no matter what result the team was able to achieve.

Typical short sighted madness from Dolan

It's looking like smoke from the Kidd camp (and possibly some from us as an agent favor) to bolster his position in Dallas. He's just hired two fairly high profile assistants down there. He's not likely going anywhere.

I've learned my lesson the last few days and am taking everything with a fat grain of salt.

Then how do you explain the new Udoka and Finch report? Clearly they are looking at current head coaches, so it's not like the idea is completely fabricated.

Was a theory I read on the Knicks board where some suggested they are targeting Kidd as a means to get Giannis across in a trade.

I don't recall exactly what went down in Milwaukee but I always felt Giannis didn't like Kidd as coach and played a part in his firing.

Also he left the Knicks coaching job originally to take up the Bucks gig.

Got no idea why NYK want him back (unless as Capn'O suggests its part of a move from the Kidd camp to get a better contract from the Mavs which seems very plausible)

yes. i think thibs has a ceiling. he's good at what he's done on the three teams

however everyone was surprised. i mean there was a REASON for firing malone, but the optics is "nyk fired a coach who got them into the semis". nyk was an embarrassment and thibs literaly DOUBLED their wins and has maintained. the firing is not a good look - look at where they were and looked at what they are NOW

to me, thibs made everyone forget about dolan

Agreed but I don't think it's encouraging to read that the Knicks and Dolan is looking for another experienced/retread coach.

Are say Vogel, Bud or Malone that much different to Thibs ?

Johnnie Bryant or my boy Sam Cassell are crying out for a senior coaching gig.

I thought Leon Rose has carte Blanche on all front office decisions, seems like James Dolan is back to meddling and I genuinely feel bad for Knicks fans if this is the case.

This is all a slow play to Cassell :D

We've definitely asked about those two. Apparently, we never officially asked the Mavs for permission. I'm not saying we haven't shopped where they said we shopped. I'm just not convinced of the prioritization/motives.

He left the NETS for the Bucks. He played like **** in the playoffs for us so he could accept the Nets job. I think he's a snake.

Yeah I never liked him either, something really oily about him and his personality.

Knicks or another other team looking for a coach shouldn't hire someone who is carrying around a suitcase of baggage like Kidd does imo.

Granted i thought Udoka was toast after his scandal at the Celtics and would never coach again but he has done a terrific job with the Rockets so far.

I know the Knicks got burnt in the past trying rookie coaches like Hornacek but you may also get another Fizdale again in a retread..

I don't think Dolan wants to look like a fool hiring a first time coach and the Knicks fail to at least return to the East Finals though. This is where I worry about his meddling again after he was relatively meddle free throughout the Thibs era.

I was Dolan hater #1 for a long time but I'm not ready to cry wolf yet here. Leon just signed Thibs to a 30 million dollar extension so I don't really blame him for wanting oversight over all the inputs before he had to eat that. Also, World Wide Wes has been leading a charge to move on from Thibs for a few years now so it's unlikely Dolan appeared from nowhere to make the call.

How involved is he in the hiring process though? Hopefully not very.

Maybe Dolan can pull Doc Rivers from the Bucks for couple of first round picks

Yeah this coach firing reminds me of that time I was at a bangin' party and some dude decided to do a backflip into the pool.

He turned over all the food, splashed all these fine chicks, then realized waaaay too late that he couldn't swim.

So the party basically turned into a rescue mission, so everybody went home.

That's the Knix rn.

This was the closest you got to the finals , this 2 games away will be stuck in Knicks fans heads for generations again , and long time after Thibs is gone Knicks fans will question this move

What IF … he stayed…. Maybe he needed just another season ….IF IF IF …. by then Knicks fans will have this beautiful dreams again , how to advance to the playoffs again , the circle
