Krause is a dick. But hes really getting screwed over here, he is entirely right that the organisation doesn't get the credit it deserves. If Krause doesn't do his job well, MJ wins zero rings and we aren't watching a documentary.
I am genuinely asking, what issues do you feel this documentary should pay more attention to to make it a "true" and unbalanced documentary?
I'm not referring to you, but I feel like a lot of people complaining about this documentary are expecting it to focus on some dirt that would somehow compromise Jordan's image but simply doesn't exist. Again, not putting words in your mouth, just a general feeling when I read comments that are critical of the documentary's (alleged) bias.
Since most of us have only seen 60% of the series, it feels like some people are jumping the gun a little bit. I do wish they focused more on Jordan being a dyck to some of his teammates, but we might see more of that later, especially since Kerr was involved in the documentary.
I agree that Krause probably deserves more respect, but the documentary does portray him as someone who did his job well. I think it was mentioned twice by Kerr and Paxson. Perhaps it's understated in contrast to some of the criticism that he gets (I actually like the fact that Jordan and Pippen especially don't hold back). But I don't know the perception of a non-NBA fan watching this.
SPOILER ALERT(Ep 7-8)
Mike's the GOAT cos of what he did on the court. I'm a huge Lebron fan too, but Mike was just a different league from his competition at the time, and I don't believe anyone dominated an entire sport like he did back in the 90s. Lebron is the unquestioned(discounting Skip Bayless) best in the era, but his level of dominance(and the choke job against Dallas) is not close to Mike's. All that said, Mike's far from a great team mate or locker room dude.
An unbiased biography / Ken Burns would've honestly questioned some of the narrative in the doc for me -
1. Mike was terribly mean to Kobe for the first half of his career, until he got that Kobe was well below his level in numbers, championships, MVPs, etc to ever challenge his legacy. And then came Lebron...
2. The love for Jerry Kraus is a bit misplaced. The SOB did draft Mike, Scottie, Kukoc and made the absolute perfect coaching changes and trades to facilitate the 90s run. That was a hell of a team without Mike, much like Kawhi's Raptors / KD's Warriors. Couldn't have won without Mike, but nothing close to the Cavs teams Lebron dragged to the finals 5 times, or the Lakers project now. Sure he destroyed it all a few years before it was time, but he was a 1000% better Manager than present day Mike himself.
3. Mike's disrespect and poor social skills with team mates are credited to him testing their readiness for the pressure of playoffs. Are you sure he'll be able to test Kyrie and KD and JR and Dwight... the same way and get any results. Those team mates had a 55 win record without the testing. They were all just happy and playing great. Mike's injection into a 55 win team should mean championships.
4. Why the f*ck would Mike ever think the Scottie was being selfish in the 1998 season. I can get it if he thinks that in the moment, but after 22 years.. It takes a level of ignorance to not respect and understand your best mate for over 8-9 of your most successful years.
5. Mike doesn't still hate Isiah, after 28 years, cos he didn't shake his hand, it's cos he's still sour from the a*s kicking he received from the Bad Boys in the years gone by. The skipping handshakes crap was just something that happened every once in a while back in that time, as we've seen in several videos surfaced on youtube in the last week. The funny thing is that Mike still wanted to include that part and his own present day thoughts about Isiah in the doc. Mike doesn't get to be upset over a handshake after the verbal abuse he dealt out to everyone on court. Tough guy vs KD - pick a side ffs.
6. I watched the NBA in the 90s, and would so often felt like the entire Bulls squad would go super cold on offence at times, cos MJ was going Iso all the time. Despite the great Phil Jackson, there was no cohesion, no chemistry, no fun in the game at times. That has no part in this doc.
7. He retired cos of his father and he got punked by the Glove cos of his father.. reminds me of when Lebron brings up his injuries when he loses. The retirements are just Mike feeling himself too much or moments of weakness. Pick one..
8. Scottie has changed his entire tone about what he thinks about Mike; Mike vs Lebron ever since he got contracted for this doc.
I can assure you Kukoc has done the same. There is no damn way he can feel so good about MJ after a drink without filters.
9. WTF is his trainer doing in this doc? This feels so much like the Barber Shop crap Lebron is trying to pull lately.
10. Mike basically gave up in game 3 in the '86 Celtics series and settled for a measly 19 points in 40 minutes after the 49 & 63. Happened a few times in the following 5 years till he got Pippen, and I don't blame him for being human. I couldn't help but think of that while watching Lebron - game 2 onwards for 2 years against KD+Warriors team.
I feel that Mike's true demeanor is ultra-competitive, borderline insecure and petty(just watch his HOF induction speech if you don't believe me), which is what drove him to work as hard as he did. And that's just fine. Messi can't win a World Cup, and Roger has a losing record against Rafa, Sachin Tendulkar choked under the pressure of captaincy... Those guys are still the greatest in their respective sports regardless.
This doc is trying to make him a combo of Mike and Mother Teresa, which comes off as dishonest and unauthentic to me.
