It’s not like these asymptomatic players will be constantly running into the stands and rubbing elbows with fans, it sounds like you’re mainly worried for the fans at a game in this case but it really is an overstated concern, if you’re at risk for a bad outcome then just don’t sit near the court at an NBA game.
You read what I wrote, and concluded that my main worry was about fans? How?
This has already spread to entire teams even despite efforts to quarantine even asymptomatic positives, so not sure why else you’d be worried about asymptomatic vaccinated players playing other than spreading to those throughout the arenas.
Again, this is why I'm appreciative that the experts are in charge.
Your first post talked about being "at risk for a bad outcome" in response to my post, which detailed why unfettered spread of Omicron - despite not being personally/individually risky - is not being treated the same as other illnesses with similar individual outcomes. Mainly because we have mapped the mutations of things like influenza and rhinitis and, aside from a fatal mutation event (extremely rare) that these things pose close to no risk.
We do not have such a map for coronavirus yet. So, considering the widespread damage it's already done, considering we've seen 2 vastly different mutations occur in under 14 months, and considering the still extremely high amount of people who are unvaxxed and/or uncaring of precautionary methods like social distancing, mask wearing, or just general caution.. it stands to reason there is concern in the medical community about what could happen. So since Omicron's inception, they have determined that its much less likely to be a personal risk, however unfettered spread gives it more opportunities to mutate/evolve, which could, as I said in the initial post, be disastrous.
The idea that because its spreading a lot between athletes currently, so we may as well just loosen all restrictions, makes no sense. You're basically saying you want to roll the dice and hope no potent mutations come out from it, with absolutely no in-depth knowledge of what could happen.
But both of your posts were answered by my initial post, and I'm happy to go into greater detail if you don't understand what I'm saying there. But I hope you do understand that the rationalization you're using is basically asking to risk massively with the ultimate reward being.. a less interfered with NBA season.

The silver lining is, so far, that Omicron doesn't seem to have the capability to get you twice. Very likely due to natural immunity and not as much the vaccine or the booster (both do help, but nowhere near as much as before and not at a rate that's similar to the vast majority of vaccines for other diseases)
But more to the point, if your team is getting hit hard now (*ahem Chicago*) then you will likely be looking good towards the stretch run / playoffs part of the season, health-wise. Some estimations have Omicron lingering, weakening the body, for a week or 2 after its potency/contagiousness wears off, which means a player getting COVID-O is potentially looking at a month of effects, in a worst-case scenario.
I'm not saying teams should have a chicken-pox-party or anything like that, just that if your team is going through it now and you have aspirations in the playoffs, its not the worst thing in the world

Alex Caruso is now the singular Bulls rotation player not lost to protocols the last month. Wow.

At this rate it seems like a number of the games scheduled for tomorrow might not even get played.

I thought it was hilariously comical to see Kent Bazemore and Avery Bradley (both out for protocols) high five their teammates on the bench vs. Brooklyn.
So they’re not allowed to play but they can sit on the bench? Pure comedy.

Indiana, Utah and Phoenix have all avoided COVID-19. Congrats to their medical staff.

It's going to reach a breaking point soon where they're going to have to suspend play. I mean, feels like damn near half the league has it, which means the other half will likely test positive soon as well.
Omicron contagious as all hell. Crazy.

I thought they have to isolate therefore can’t be on the bench?

Isn’t that more a shoutout to their players. The medical staff isn’t doing anything in particular to avoid the spread. If anything the players keeping safe and somehow managing to avoid it should be congratulated.

Blaming players for getting covid is dumb...All of those teams have had guys with covid, but they weren't being tested.

Did I say we should blame players for getting covid? I don't think I did so I'm not sure where that came from.

I said that it's the players that should be congratulated for being able to avoid it or the team as a whole rather than the medical staff by itself.
