Re: Luka AD trade thread Part II
The Chosen 1 and The Don are now teammates.
League about to be fugged if they get a legit center lol.
I hated this last night. Now I'm actually loving the idea of people hating on a LeBron/Luka duo.

1) Why did AD waive his trade kicker? That seems to indicate he'd rather play in Dallas?
AD wanting to play for Dallas doesn't surprise me because it seems like eventually guys who play with Lebron eventually become exhausted because of everything involved and don't mind moving on. They always remain cool with Lebron personally but it probably becomes draining and add to the fact that AD played for the Yankees/Cowboys of the NBA and the fact that every single season you don't win a title you'll be crucified by local/national fans and media, he may be a little relieved.
This is one reason why it's still not a given that Luka signs long term with the Lakers. Being the top player on the NYY/Cowboys/LAL means you're dealing with fans/media with unrealistic expectations and more pressure than any other athletes. Whose to say every athlete wants that and in the case of the Lakers and their current s*** show management who basically stumble into getting good players by no accord of their own, I actually could see them screwing this up and not knowing how to build a contender around Luka. Phil Jackson isn't walking through that door. Jerry West isn't walking through that door. Pat Riley isn't walking through that door. You know who is? Jeannie Buss, her cronies, and a guy known for being Kobe Bryant's best friend/agent.
Lebron had Chris Bosh, Kevin Love and AD all at their prime years. Bosh and Love were told to camp at the corner 3 on offence which was a complete waste of their talents and a nosedive for their careers. AD with all the bandaid drama he's always had is at least a top defensive player every game and while inconstant, is still a nightmare cover for any team. You just can't make a legit case to blame the teams mediocrity on him. Not when you hired your pal as the puppet HC (too early to sack) and used a pick and a roster spot to draft your own son that clearly doesn't belong. I highly doubt Luka will sign with LA, there will be much better situations for him then with other teams.

Seems pretty clear the main reason was ownership didn't want to pay Luka that money.
I can understand this but then why not acquire a treasure chest of picks from Utah or OKC along with prospects on cheap deals? They could still remain relatively competitive. Or even trade for a young prospect like Garland or LaMelo.
Doing this for a 32 year old is suspiciously bad.
Another poster who wants picks in the distant future that would do nothing for them today. It’s like people want to be the Brooklyn Nets sooooo bad. You know what the Brooklyn Nets are?

Texans talking about boycotting the team is also hilarious. I’m old enough to remember when their senator flew first class to Cancun for a family vacay while Texans froze to death and they still supported him. The foundation for them to be cucked by people in charge has already been laid.
They’ll be alright.

Because they got the directive from ownership that they want to compete now. Nico is the lightning rod and is probably compensated accordingly.
Yup - people are having a really hard time with this and its the non-emotional/logical aspect of the trade. The Mavs didn't want 5-10 FRPs and prospects. They wanted another star piece they can simply drop onto their roster and compete for a title.

AD is a top 10 player when healthy and on top of his game, but Luka is 25 years old and a top 1-2 player when healthy and on top of his game. If the Mavs wanted to do this trade they easily could’ve gotten a few draft picks and other add ons, a 1 for 1 swap is baffling. This trade makes no sense especially considering they’re coming off a great playoffs while reaching the finals, adding Klay a lot of analysts were picking Dallas to win it this year before this trade. AD has some huge shoes to fill, pressure is on, apparently Dallas isn’t done and is still looking to add. Big shake up in Big D.
That makes this deal just right value wise.
The problem people are having is that when you are a franchise player who gets traded they’re used to there being a lot of STUFF, but never another stuff in the middle of their prime. There has never been two All NBA players from the previous season traded for each other. That means no matter what you think of Luka, AD is not that far behind him. They are closer in value than you are admitting to yourself.
If AD had been out on the market by himself, people would absolutely be expecting the Lakers to come out with five first round picks plus some young talent because that’s the standard acceptable return. By trading for AD, the Mavs are forgoing all of that in place of taking AD. You can’t have it both ways. If you want the picks galore package then you get a substantially worse player. By all accounts the inclusion of Christie, who’s actually a really, really good 3-D player on a great deal and a first round pick makes this an absolutely fair trade.
Fans just want to win the assets championship or something. F*** them picks!
Is this you Nico ?
Nets fans mad because they turned KD into 17 picks and still….

People blaming Nico when I would bet(if I had to for or against) that this happened after a convo between the Adelson's and Silver to deal Luka to LA and get the greenlight to move the team to LV in a few years. This wasn't a bb deal for Dallas, it was a location deal and Nico was told to just get it done. Granted I could be wrong but I think that's what this is.

I wonder what Utah or a team like Memphis would have traded for Doncic...

Props to Turbo_Zone for the sig.

If you were Milwaukee, would you have made that trade?
So that would never happen . Anyways Luka can’t get super duper max
I'm sure the extra endorsements he'll get in LA will lessen that loss.

And to get that star piece (AD) who is entering his late career years in this case they only shipped out a generational player entering his prime years. Who lead them to the Finals last year. Sounds legit. What's with the snap deal and secrecy though?

Pretty much as expected there. I'm curious about why the Mavs twitter didn't even post a thankyou. The Lakers did for AD, and that's customary.

This is 100% correct btw. The guy I get my meth from said he sat in with Adelsons and Silver when the deal went down and he confirms it.

The ridiculous thing is they could have had both. You’re telling me the Lakers wouldn’t give up that second pick if there was another bidder?

Well its really not that deep to me either way tbh but if the Mavs do move to LV within a few years I'd say its a sign I might have been right.

Lebron shamelessly deck-stacking/front running aside, am I the only one on the forum that doesn’t think this will workout in the short term? Instead of one player thats never held accountable for turnovers, barely get back on defense, give up interior buckets while screaming at their teammates, now they have two. And without Lively or AD to clean up perimeter messes.
